Larry Farmer has been charged with texting strategic info down to Pettine during games, supposedly giving the Clowns a "competitive advantage".

the rest of the NFL is upset only because he got caught and will have to stop doing it!

Was LARRY Farmer texting Pettine giving him advice on how to defend the "pick & pop" since he's an assistant BASKETBALL coach for Western Michigan?

Can we delete this thread? This is a bad attempt at trolling using news that is legitimately a month old.

The news is pretty old but the recent developments about Farmer getting suspended and the Browns losing a draft pick is new.

I expect the NFL to come down hard on Deflate gate, noise gate, and text-gate.

I had heard about it, but didn't know it was serious enough to warrant a fine, suspension, and possible loss of draft picks. Fuck the NFL(if its anything more than a 7th round pick) and fuck the Browns for making headlines 3 days in a row for all the wrong reasons. I think I'll burn that season ticket application now.

Just watch and see-The Patriots will get a slap on the wrist for deflating footballs and the Falcons will get a slap on the wrist for piping in crowd noise…both issues could have helped those teams win games….while the Browns will get fined and lose a draft pick for textingIf farmer's texts had any substance to them, we all kow the play calling sucked the second half of the season, so Ray's suggestion either weren't taken or they sucked.....but they'll punish the Browns the most.

But what if Farmer's text resulted in the game winning play?!?!?!?

Why is the GM texting illegal? Seems like it would be no different than Jerry being on the sideline or any higher up being involved. I don't understand why someone within the organization isn't allowed to talk to the head coach or whoever during the game.

Probably a a very good reason, I just can't think of it.

This is what the rule says...
This prohibition ... applies to the use of any electronic communication devices, including but not limited to a cell phone, smart phone, tablet device, or any type of computer, whether online or stand-alone, including laptop and hand-held computers, in the coaches' booths, on the sidelines, in the locker room (after kickoff), or in any other club-controlled area on game day beginning ninety (90) minutes prior to kickoff and continuing through the end of the game, including halftime (with the exception of League-issued tablets used for coaches' still photos)."

I dont know, maybe passing of information, or having people gather information during the game and passing it along to the coaches. Maybe something an owner, or scout, or whatever found on via the tv telecast.....who knows, not sure.

I don't think a GM talking to a coach is illegal. I think the illegal thing is electronic devices are not supposed to be used on the sidelines during games. The only thing allowed to be used are the surface pro tablets.

The Clowns can probably challenge this...I doubt "Two Dixie Cups & String" can be interpreted as an "electronic device".

It will be like a 5th round draft pick. It's not like the Browns are going to turn this team around with a 5th round draft pick. The rule is still stupid though.

You are right because the 2 teams in the super bowl this year were not loaded with 4th-6th rounders. The difference is that those teams actually hit on draft picks...

I think the team is fine right now but again its pretty apparent that the QB selection is poor at best. Manziel needs to go but I think this team is much closer to being relevant than we ever have been. Gordon being a POS doesn't help either.
