It is freaking winter and the news stations make everything life and death now to feel important! It is a joke...I saw a news lady talking to a guy on a snowmobile this morning on the news and she said what are you doing out here in these life threatening conditions...the man laughed and said it is great snowmobiling weather you can't ride in the summer! Amen.

Yea most news stations do a great job blowing everything out of proportion.

I wish I could be a fucking meteorologist. You can be wrong over and over again and affect millions of people and billions of dollars and there are no repercussions for it.

Long Island and further north still got rocked, they were just wrong about the predicted accumulation for NYC. People are still pissed about it though due to the MTA shutdown and travel ban.

Better to be wrong by erring on the side of caution.... if they miss it the other way, people die and there's a real clusterf***.

I think the problem with forecasting these days is they try to be way too accurate. If they would generalize more or be more broad, they wouldn't be so "wrong" all the time.

They do generalize. The storm had such a sharp western cutoff however so wobble off to the east cut snowfall totals drastically. Trust me if they tried to actually be spot on they could, 3-6" is a broad sweep with the forecast model shows .5" of liquid

Wasn't talking specifically this storm. But I disagree. They try to pinpoint which areas will get 1-3", which ones gets 3-5", 4-6", etc. So if someone is in 4-6" and gets 2" they are pissed!

Just shows how difficult it can be to predict.
I would rather have them predict more and get less than vice versa, but yeah, the blizzard mobile was a joke.

Seems this "overpredicting" has started with rain as well. Your forecast used to be something like "Mostly cloudy with a 70% chance of rain. Some areas could see heavy rain." Now you get maps that predict the amount you will get down to the tenth of an inch. And they are hardly ever accurate.

That's the kind of stuff I'm referring to.

They will always over prepare for stuff like this now.

Do recall what happened 4 years ago? We got fucking hammered and they were very unprepared and Bloomberg took a lot of heat.
