Well sleeper what else can you do when your apart other than talk on the phone and web cam. I mean things are interesting, it's just holidays are hard.

I was in a long distance relationship for 3 years, I lived in AZ, gf in OH. We agreed that if it didn't work than so be it, but we at least wanted to try. We talked on the phone everyday, she came out and visited me a couple times, I came back a few times. We just took it one day at a time and eventually got used to it, and now we're back living together.

When I met my wife, I was coaching HS Football, Jr. High Basketball, HS Softball, was refereeing about 50+ Jr. High - Varsity basketball games in the Winter, refereed about 3-4 Summer basketball tournaments, and golfed 3-5 times per week.

Now, on my own doing (mostly) I volunteer for football (10% of the time I used to put in), no longer coach basketball, Head Softball Coach, only ref about 30 games (add tournaments), ref two summer tournaments, and golf about 1 time per month.

I gave all that up... and sometimes I still feel like it's not enough.

My wife and I were in a long distance "relationship" for 8 years. The reason I put relationship in quotes is that we were 12 when it began and 19 when it became a "same town" relationship. During that almost 8 year period of separation, we actually saw each other twice. When I returned, we had exchanged many letters, a few phone calls, but nothing person to person. That, of course would change and one year later we were married. I guess it worked out ok because she has allowed me to do the job I love for over 40 years and she also has never demanded that I grow up. Men usually don't grow up entirely, but some wives constantly tell their childish husbands to grow up. My wife doesn't. I guess she figures it would be futile and she raised our four boys while I was coaching and teaching. She did a great job and I still haven't grown up. A very special woman, indeed!

My fiance is a farmer and is NEVER home. 8 months out of the year he's gone early and comes home when I'm sleeping. I see him on the weekends and during the week if I go out to the field and ride with him or haul a load somewhere with him. In the winter he hauls fertilizer for a company in Toledo and works 7pm-3am.....I see him for maybe an hour a day. I coach high school softball, so when that starts, I'll be lucky to see him during the week at all!

AND we have a great relationship!! I miss him of course, and wish I could see him more, but we appreciate our time together more. We both have our things we do and our independence. Nobody is sitting at home waiting for the other.

I was in a long distance relationship for 3.5 years out of a 5 year relationship. She was in college in Chicago and I was in college in Bloomington. It was the best 5 years of my life (to this point), but DAMN, it was a lot of work.

We both loved each other, so it worked. No offense, but you've only been dating for 6 months, im not sure you can survive a long distance relationship when the start of it hasnt been very long.

It may not have been very long but we have lived together every day plus 2 months prior to the relationship starting. We were together almost all the time, so it's a little different than just casual dating.

Y-Town - my wife and I did the LTR for four and a half years. Other that the first two months, we never lived in the same time zone until we got married. I lived in Columbus and Boston (or on the road somewhere) - she lived in Atlanta, Salt Lake City, or Louisville KY. We saw each about twice a quarter while I was in college, and about once a week for the last year (she acquired enough seniority at the airline to get off of the flight attendant's "extra board" and could get regular days off)

The only way we survived was by not going exclusive until we actually got engaged (six months before we got married). In reality, I really didn't want to date all that much for the last year or so - I was pretty well hooked on her.

We've been married for 28 years - it's worth waiting for if it's the real thing.
