Was not able to post the last couple weeks, but I wanted to add to the convo about how the Browns will do this year. I can see this team imploding and winning 2 games just as I can see this team also grinding to 9 wins. The Browns defense needs to improve their run defense for the latter to happen, which won't happen if all our dlinemen go down to the injury bug again. I think the front 7 has potential if they stay healthy. We also underestimate the impact Mack had on the offense. When you have a shitty QB a running game can hide that flaw. Our RBs were dicing up defenses until Mack went down. The line went from the best in the league with Dallas to 6th because of their run blocking efficiency. The line is only as good as their weakest link, and unfortunately without Mack, our weakest link at center was a huge hole.

6. Cleveland Browns (12th)
Pass Blocking Ranking: 2nd, Run Blocking Ranking: 7th, Penalties Ranking: 16th
Stud: What a year from Joe Thomas (+33.5). The sure-fire Hall of Famer continues to amaze with his play, never having an off year, looking like the best tackle of his generation.
Dud: When Alex Mack went down, Nick McDonald (-28.3) got 481 snaps at center. It did not go well… at all. Truth be told, anyone who got snaps at center struggled after the loss of Mack.
Breakdown: The pickup of Joel Bitonio reaped immediate rewards with this line playing as well as any. That was until they lost Mack for the year and that was a hammer blow to their chances of the top spot. Still, there aren’t many lines with as much talent on their roster as the Browns.

You can have a finesse player just as good. I guess to go in further detail Soloman is the type of role player every team needs. The guy who does a lot of dirty work, but won't be a super star.

If you want to simplify everything then yes, but not everything is black and white. I would trust a "pettine guy" over a "womangini guy" any day of the week. There is a reason why all teams take on different types of personalities and styles. Hell even divisions take on certain personalities and styles. I think we all know what the AFCN is known for.

I actually think Mingo made some plays last year. He's not going to be a stud or even a "really good" player, but he can be serviceable out there.

Great in pass coverage, motor always going guy. He's not a great run stuffing OLBer though. Least hasn't displayed that capability. Mayeb this is his yr with his shoulder fixed. I'm sure the shoulder was a big reason he couldn't get off blocks last season.

Except the Ravens made it back to the playoffs because they could stop the run and run the ball... Flacco isn't an elite QB that can carry the team. At least pay enough attention to the NFL to realize the style of the AFC North.

Also Browns went all in on stopping the run? lol they committed to get a NT that is supposed to help shore up the middle bc PT can't stay healthy. Hard to play def when you don't have an anchor on the lines (see alex mack last season). What a dumb post by sleeper.

I'm basing my belief on the 11 games where he was in a good system and had playmakers and time to throw. Our line will give him time to throw and if he has that, he will be good.

All will depend on the rushing attack. If our rushing attack made Hoyer looked good at the beginning of the season (when we had Mack), I beleive they can make McCown look competent.

Mingo is about as worthless as they come. He's going to get beat out by an undrafted (believe Soloman was a UDFA) free agent and be a "situational" type player. Now that's value for a #6 pick. :rolleyes:

No one is saying he can live up to the #6 pick in the draft hype. He will always be considered a reach, and a bad pick at that spot. But there are plenty of players out there like that who are contributing to their team. Mingo can still be a contributor on this team, I wouldn't call him "worthless as they come".

An 11 game stretch where according to PFF he was extremely lucky with INts not being caught by the def. His entire career he's been a bum with this ONE exception. I can't think of one example where a QB who was a back up his entire career, threw all kinds of INTs, all of a sudden gets better. His INT rate last yr with TB (With 2 pro bowl WRs) was in line with his career avg (~5% of throws).

Feel free to get last word in (I know you usually have to have that) but your fandom is getting in the way of logic. He sucks.

For where he was chosen, he is. He can be a contributor but at #6, you're looking for a game changing/playmaker. Not a one down pass rush specialist. He can be a serviceable player but for the spot he was chosen at, he really, really sucks.
