Agree. Not too mention much can depend on timing. Teams get on a roll, are playing better, injuries, away, home, mathups etc, etc. Too many variables to play that common apponent thing. And I think the committee knows as much.

I agree that you can't look at common opponents to determine who will win, but you really can't even look at when teams have played each other to determine who would win. How many times do teams rematch and the outcome is different the second time around? If you truly wanted to find the best team they would have to play a series and I'm not sure anyone wants that.

How messed up will it be if both win out and TCU finishes ahead of Baylor?
Also, how messed up with it be if they had TCU ahead of them all season but all of a sudden pull the head-to-head card out of the deck and put Baylor ahead of them?

If Baylor gets left out, they have no one to blame but themselves. Their best OOC game was Buffalo, who is a middle of the pack MAC school.

By factoring in everything of relevance. Their job is to find the 4 best teams. That means there's more to the conversation than who won on October 11 in Waco.

If OSU and whatever other big ten team finished 11-1 and OSU was the winner of the head to head game there is no way to put the other team ahead of them.

I really don't get why this is so hard. In the committee's eyes, TCU is the better team. And that is all that matters to them.

Definitely. But unless my favorite team was in the Big 12, there'd be no way this situation would be possible. They don't have a conference championship game. Every other conference of note does, where things would eventually get settled in early December. Big 12 essentially put themselves in the old-school AP Poll land, where they are 100% dependent on the whims of decision-makers who may or may not be legitimately deserving of making said decisions.

Pop in, say, Cinci and Boise State, have a playoff game and a situation like this won't happen. Whenever you're dependent on the opinions of people to determine your worth, it's your duty to put as many failsafes in as possible.

Very true. Their loss of teams took away the need for the conference champion.
Lets go back pre-big ten championship game days. If Michigan and OSU both finished 10-1 and were both in line for that 2 spot in the NC game...whom do you think would/should get the slot? The team who won the head to head even if teh voters thought the other team was better. That is how we settle disputes in sports between two teams. Head to head. WHen it comes down two teams, both possibly deserving of a final 4 spot, and both played nine of the same opponants..you have to go with the head to head. That is the way to do it.

Yeah that TCU vs Minnesota game just screams big time competition.
If you are just comparing losses between two teams who havent played one another you can look at a good vs bad loss. But when they faced eachother....the head to head trumps the whole thing.

Well, one of the differences there is that OSU-Michigan is always the last week of the season, so it's the definitive guideline. In any sport, things just change so much from beginning to end that a narrow home win earlier in the season just doesn't hold the same power.

True. The thing is when comparing teams across the country with very little common opponents they will look at anything they can to try and that brings in the types of the loss. If there are nine common opponants though....it makes that head to head very important and telling and a tipping point

TCU sucks. I bet they lose by 40 to whoever the play in the CFP. Ohio State would blow them out of the water with our 3rd string QB.
