When LeBron returned to the Cavaliers, I was much more interested in seeing him play with Andrew Wiggins than I was Love. Watching these Finals, it is easier to see how well a player who can defend positions 2-4, hit corner 3’s and cut to the basket like Harrison Barnes would make a more meaningful impact than Love in this specific situation with LeBron at the center of everything. You could see Wiggins playing a better version of Barnes' game with LeBron and Kyrie to give Cleveland a seemingly infinite title window."
That's why I was ultimately was not in favor of the wiggins trade. Love is great but besides D Wade, lebron has never really had that elite wing player who can knock down three's, drive to the rim and finish, and play D.

This type of player wouldn't have been as valuable with the LeBron who started with the Cavs. He's an even better distributor and plays closer to the basket now. LeBron also isn't someone I always want having to guard the other team's star offensive player given how hard he has to work on offense and that he's on the north side of 30 soon.SportsAndLady;1735926 wrote:Yep.

I mean, take Iguodala for example. 5 years he wouldn't have exactly worked with LeBron, at least wouldn't have been a hands-down better fit than Love.

LOL at even mentioning Bowie over Jordan as a comparison to that trade. Fucking ridiculous.

To be fair, Wiggins hasn't shown he can make threes, or play above avergae defense yet in the NBA.SportsAndLady;1735926 wrote:Yep.

I'd much rather take a sure fire Top 10 player in the NBA, instead of one who may get there in 5-7 years.

@mcten: David Griffin said the Cavs will extend qualifying offers to both Matthew Dellavedova and Iman Shumpert.

I was lead to believe that ANYTIME during the season where you saw them start from a "non-motion" set like the old school Flex O, that was ALL LeBron and NOT a set Blatt is calling for? I don't know how unusual this is for a star player, I think with the cameras EVERYWHERE and instant info it is probably more evident than it has ever been? But IDK, I have heard other stories of Jordan, Bird, Magic, all changing plays or going "off" script. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.BR1986FB;1735925 wrote:Blatt/LeBron.....

It's fully guaranteed on August 1st. Then it's not good for anyone. That's whyAzubuike24;1735854 wrote:Why not? It gives you a piece you could move in a trade and give back an expiring contract. Other than picks, without a deal like that, the Cavs are very hamstrung in making a move outside of using a MLE on 1 player. They would essentially have...
LeBron
Love
Thompson
Irving
Mozgov
Varejao
Harris
Dellevadova
Smith, Miller and Shumpert won't be back, unless there's a new deal.
You would definitely want to have that expiring Haywood deal to potentially make another Shumpert/Smith trade like they did this year. You gotta have a salary to deal back unless of course they find a way to dump Varejao (as we discussed in prior pages, it will be much tougher than an expiring Haywood).

Also the Cavs won't have the full MLE. they'll have the mini MLE. Basically a little more than 3 mil. So almost nothing.

Yep. Maybe not on our team being the third wheel, but anywhere else he's considered a lock top 10 player. The 26-12 he put up in Minnestoa pretty much confirm that. If he was the #1 on any team in the league, he'd put those same numbers up again.Commander of Awesome;1735972 wrote:Sure fire top 10? Lol

Is he one of the top 10 ideal players you would pair with LeBron James for the next 5 years? That's the true ranking that the Cavs should care about. For instance, the Cavs would probably be better off with Klay Thompson or Kawhi Leonard, although individually people wouldn't necessarily rank them above Love.

There are certainly some guys that would be a better fit. However, they're not on our squad, and many are untouchable for all intents and purposes. Brad Beal is a guy I think would fit great with LeBron and Kyrie, but Washington won't be moving him anytime soon. Another guy I'd love is Korver, he'd probably average 4 made 3's per game with LeBron getting him the ball. Korver of course sucks on D, but so does Love, so that point is moot.Azubuike24;1735995 wrote:Is he one of the top 10 ideal players you would pair with LeBron James for the next 5 years? Yes because he can space the floor which was obviously lacking with Thompson in the game these playoffs, makes the game incredibly more difficult on Lebron. He can also score on the block unlike Thompson. A stretch 4 is perfect to pair with Lebron.Azubuike24;1735995 wrote:Is he one of the top 10 ideal players you would pair with LeBron James for the next 5 years? Yes he is, and like was said he's the player on the Squad, as evidence by the success he had in Cleveland with a big man who could space the floor. And by how mightily we struggled this post season scoring points when he went down. We had to grind for most of points, especially points in the paint.
If we're playing hypothetical game, I'm sure Jimmy Butler, Anthony Davis and Gasol would all be good fits as well. With Paul, Westbrook, Durant, Aldridge and Cousins coming off the bench.

I agree that he would put up points on a bad team, but he isn't a top 10 player. Someone has to score on a bad team. The number of rebounds would probably depend upon which conference he is in. He is a soft player and struggled to put up the same rebounding numbers in the more physical East. He is a poor defender. When you look at the total package, he isn't top 10.HighRoller74;1735987 wrote:Yep. Maybe not on our team being the third wheel, but anywhere else he's considered a lock top 10 player. Soft players don't average 14 rebounds per game in a season with marginal athleticism. He struggled to rebound the same this past year because he was camped out around the three point line all year. If he had Tristan's role, only to rebound around the bucket and no offensive responsibility I bet he would be up near 20 rebounds per game. I saw dude routinely pull down 20 plus rebounds in Minny, sometimes 30.Al Bundy;1736011 wrote:I agree that he would put up points on a bad team, but he isn't a top 10 player. He's not a top 10 player. People had him as top 10 value because of his age. He's now a year older and coming off a major injury, with somewhat lower stats. There's talk that he may not even get a max contract.

I think he's fallen off heavily and I don't think he is the best fit for the Cavs. He's still a good piece but I think the Cavs should try to move him for some solid rotation players to solidify our bench.Azubuike24;1736049 wrote:He's not a top 10 player.
