Looking to relocate to the greater Akron area. Actually found a house we like in Norton. Any good advice for people moving there ? Should be a nice change of scenery from the Toledo area.

Any pointers are greatly appreciated. Thanks !

Don't ride the metro. A 16 yr old was shot on it yesterday.

i don't know what to say really. Maybe more specific stuff I can help. I've only been to Norton a few times and that's to shoot at the gun range right off of the interstate.

I have lived in the Akron area (Mogadore and now Akron proper) for almost six years, and I love it. I actually lived in Toledo for six years prior to moving here. I did enjoy my time there, but I like Akron much better.

I really liked living in Mogadore, but I am a small town girl. I don't think Norton is a bad choice, either.

Thanks Fab, I'm actually from Oak Harbor so small town boy myself. Norton seems nice, and looked some in Barberton, but it has a " Fremont " feel to it. Just starting to look honestly.

Barberton is white trash. That's not an issue for me, so I would have no problem living there, but it's a turn off for some.

Not sure if you have kids (or are planning to), but Mogadore, Tallmadge, Norton, Green and Copley have some of the best schools in the area I believe.

We have an 8th grader left in school so that is a concern. Again I like the small town feel of Norton. We also have a son playing college football at Notre Dame College in S. Euclid so it will be nice to be closer to him. If there are hillbillies in Norton, we should fit right in, haha. Thanks Fab1b. It's just time for some new scenery.

If your work is in Mogadore ... Norton is west across Akron and in the morning and after work its a nightmare

I would suggest if you like small town feeling, good school and safe area but an eazy drive to Mogadore
Mogadore is nice but Hartville is very nice, school system is geat, area has lots to offer and good place to have a family.

Norton is not full of hillbillies... Barberton is. Norton is about a 20 minute drive from Mogadore. Wadsworth is a good place to look at also....about 5 minutes farther. Both Wadsworth and Norton are quick hops onto the freeway. If you are looking for more land/country living, Sharon Center and Doylestown. Sharon center is a little more affluent...Doylestown has top rated schools and better land values.

I'm pretty familiar with the west side of town...Mogadore is east...I can't really vouch for areas there.

In recent years, Wadsworth has become a bit more upscale too, I believe.

Maybe it's just me, but even if there are hillbillies living in a certain area, it's not going to deter me from living there. I like being surrounded by my people. :)

Yes it is. And Barbertucky is too. Only redeeming quality of doylestown is Chippewa golf club. Nice little gem there. Great Monday night golf league.

Listen to Fab, best schools in the area she has listed are correct.

Mogadore is a great place to live. Small town/don't have to lock your doors area but really close to anything you want to do (as in you aren't in the boonies).
