Had this argument tonight that while he is a damn good QB there are others that are better and a few that I would take on my team first...
This SI poll doesn't even list him.

The difference between him and many of those QB's is the fact that guys like Elway, Flutie, Plunkett, McMahon, Marino, Young, etc. did what they did without having the type of talent Tebow had around him.
What Tebow has done is VERY special, and that's coming from somebody who can't stand the guy, but when you have weapons and an offensive line like he has, not to mention top 5 defenses every year, you're going to win a lot of games.
Tebow has had guys like Harvin, Caldwell, Rainey, Hernandez, Cooper, and dominant offensive lines, along with many other play makers.
Some of those guys had a few play makers, but nothing great. Leinart had a TON around him, as did Vince Young, and even Wuerfel.

Oh, and for what it's worth, of all the QB's they listed, I voted for Frazier. Frazier was absolutely electric in his days with Nebraska.

Tebow is having a monumental game tonight. His stats are very impressive. I think the way UF played tonight, they could beat anyone in the country.

You know, if they played a defense that was this bad every week, they'd probably win the NC.
But they played against a few very talented defenses this year and got exposed especially by Alabama.

Tim Tebow is simply a "system" quarterback. As DaBrowns41 stated, everything looks easier when you have all the tools in place around you.

Tebow is a great player but not the greatest QB in college history. I think the voting is a bit of sham though. There are not that many people around now that even saw Sammy Baugh play and the game was very very different so the stats are very misleading.

The numbers from each of the eras make this a tough decision. Passing has evolved more and more and more as the years have gone by

Considering the accomplishments he made running and passing the ball, and 2 titles and plenty of awards,,,,,,how can he not be one of the best QB's ever? He played 4 years of great football against the best talented conference the past 4 seasons.

You mean 3 years.
Chris Leak was the starter Tebow's freshman season.

When I think "system" QB, I think of the Hawaii QB's in June Jones' "It's the fucking WAC, just wing it over everyone" offense. Makes ANYONE look good.
When I think of Tebow, it's a good QB with weapons all around him. He'd have been amazing on his own, but his team made him look that much better.
It's SEC football, not a gimmick "system".

No, 4 seasons. He got playing time his freshman year.
No, 3 seasons. He wasn't a starter his freshman year.
Getting playing time on a QB dive a few plays a game that season doesn't count as great football.

Tebow was the short yardage/goal line/blowout QB in 2006. It was mostly Leak with Tebow punching a few home on the doorstep and in garbage time.

6 carries a game, and 1.5 passes a game hardly constitutes as "playing great".
10 of his 22 passes that season were in a 62-0 route.
It was a good try though.

Fine, he had 3.25 great years at QB. (since its such a huge argument and you guys want to discredit him)

I'm going to discredit him because everybody says "Tebow has two rings".
The only thing he really did in 2006 was help win the LSU game when he had 2 passing TD's in 2 attempts.
Other than that he had 2 garbage TD's in the 62-0 route, and a passing TD on 1 attempt in a 41-14 blowout against OSU.
It was Leaks team in 2006, and that's inarguable.

Discredit him?
He had a very limited and very specific role that first year:
1. Inside the 5
2. 4th and 1
3. Up by 50
Now, obviously his role was important as he would almost always convert or score in those situations, but in the grand scheme of things that was Chris Leak's baby. He did the legwork. I have nothing against Tebow, that's simply how it was.

Umm, him and many other UF players have 2 rings. They won as a team, not because of Leak.

No shit.
But everybody always mentions his 2 rings, like he was such a big part of the offense, when he wasn't. That's the point I was trying to make. Not that hard to understand.
