Why doesn't the NBA just go to a free throw contest?

I like the college way better than sudden death, but I don't like it.
Gotta end the game somehow. Don't want players playing an additional full quarter, also OT seems fair.

So playing an additional quarter is ok when it ends in a tie?

I'm fine with sudden death, but if the first team scores, the other team should get the opportunity to match, imo.

I would be good with about the 50....need at least a first down IMO from the offense. From the 35 with no net gain they could still be in FG range.

Right, but college rules OT could go on for hours. And I think that long OT periods would be even more likely in the NFL.

This would be ok if they have to go for 2 from the get go.

I'd have to see evidence. Judging how rare OT is now, not sure I agree with that.

I also hate the "well they should have won in regulation" argument. That makes it seem that OT is a punishment and no team deserves to win the game. Sometimes both teams are evenly matched and bust their asses to win.

Denver's defense sucked in ot, but Denver should have had their chance to at least tie it up. Both teams played hard in regulation, not sure why one should be rewarded with this "golden" touch down rule and the other team punished for it. Especially when it's decided by a coin flip.

Football seems to be the only sport where we have this "OT is a punishment" mentality. Nobody says "well they should have won in regulation," when a NBA game goes to OT.

I agree with this.....I just started all this by lol'ing at Manning throwing into triple coverage with 2:20 left in the game and trailing....

My OT would be as is but you must go for 2 on all TD's and opponent gets a chance to match (unless team who begins OT with ball gives up ball via turnover and other team scores in any manner. I would do kickoffs from the 30 yard line.

I can't believe this so far* in Carolina.

I have missed both TD's while flipping over to watch the Reds and missed all 7 Reds runs watching the Steelers SMH. And damn sure to continue as long as they are winning.

I just can't fucking watch....that's pretty much the rule. I have watched more of this game than the Reds by a good bit.

While I've watched:

Carolina 13
Pittsburgh 6
