Have you ever considered a canoe?

Thinking a 14 foot fiberglass canoe for you and the wife and also get a saddle if wanting to go single person.

Just thinking fishing in a canoe would be a lot easier than a kayak.

I disagree. Canoe seems like more of a hassle than a two seater Kayak. Probably harder to transport/a lot heavier.

Here is the one I am eye-ing up.
http://www.basspro.com/Ascend-D10-SitIn-Kayak-Red/product/11081905012221/

Stick with the one seater, take the cooler area out for a spot for my dog.

sidenote: dont know why anyone would ever want a sit-on instead of sit-in one.

I fish all the time from a sit in kayak similar to that one. Used it in both fresh and salt. Nothing like a big red tugging you around. Since moving to TX I haven't gotten out much am looking to get back out soon!

I'm going to be pushing it trying to store a small kayak somewhere on my property. I wouldn't have enough room to store a canoe.

What's wrong with a sit-on?

I'm currently leaning towards one like this:

Strictly speculation because I've never been on one, it seems a lot more unstable to me. Id look to use mine for more than just fishing. Or even taking it out on rougher waters like Lake Erie seems a little more impractical/dangerous with a sit on. Could be off base.

Been catching crappie at Clarence J Brown reservoir. The size has been larger then normal. 13-14" has been our average with a few 17+ most of the ones we have been catching qualify for fish Ohio. The game warden told us that everyone has been catching big crappie this fall. Not sure if I have ever had this good of fall and not sure what is different from previous years. The local bait store said someone brought in three that were 1/8-1/4" off state record.

Anyone do any of the monthly tackle box subscriptions?

I just signed up for a month each of Tackle Grab (TRYFOR5), Lucky Tackle Box (C499), and Mystery Tackle Box (GET499).

Use the coupon codes in parens and you can try them for just $5 for the first month. The only thing is you'll have to go in and manually cancel the subscription after the first month if you don't want to get billed at $15/month going forward. I figured it was worth a try at $5 a pop when you're getting at least $15 worth of gear in each box.

A 14 foot canoe is only around 70 pounds. The benefit is having two seats or can also be used by one person.

A 12 foot sit in kayak weighs around 45 pounds. Takes up two feet less space and can only be used by one person.

I'd rather just shop for tackle which specifically fits what I'm fishing for.

Yeah, I can definitely see that. It seemed like a decent option for me to try since I am building up my tackle box from scratch. They are also mainly geared towards bass fishing so it should give me a lot of new and different types of bait to use.

I've got a 14' two man Hobie Cat Kayak w/ Mirage Drive I paid $2200 for in 2008. I'll let it go for $1,000 and it's like new. Mirage Drive is in excellent condition. Check it out on Hobie Cat Kayak website. Best fishing kayak out there and it's not even close. Why? Because the Mirage Pedal Drive lets you fish and move around w/o paddles.
