Shit, when I was in college I used to email my professors for direction and edits on papers before I turned in final drafts. We also had a writing lab on campus where people's job was to help you edit and fix your papers before turning them in.

Stupid people cheat. Stupid people also end up ineligible. Maybe he didn't cheat enough Spring semester to remain eligible but in past semesters he did? Maybe he cheated in one class but then unexpectedly failed another he wasn't cheating in? Do you think those are more likely, or it's more likely that this whole investigation is based around punctuation correction and peer editing of rough drafts?
Sure. Sounds like he's just bullshitting. But he also says he has the emails to prove it. Which is what Notre Dame is looking at currently.
I think the most likely thing is that this whole investigation is based around the administration being tight asses and getting wind that some of the players are cheating. They self-reported the possibility and pulled the kids from practice while they investigated what really happened. While starting the investigation, it leaked out and then became a huge big deal where rumors started about having 22 former and current players being investigated (which isn't true) and a girl fucking the players and doing their work and then getting mad 2 years later and turning them in. And it's also likely that if it's found that these guys didn't cheat, they will always be labeled as cheaters because of this investigation.
