No reason to make this political.
Obama and the administration are going to face enough grief on this. IMO it is deserved since the administration has been so weak (alright, that's sort of political) on dealing with Russia, and this only exacerbates the situation. But (I think do think it is a coincidence) another Malaysian flight fell and 295 people died senselessly. And the developed world is noticing this. That could have easily been BA, or Lufthansa, or Sing Air, Qantas, or even an Emirates flight that was in the airspace path.
The international response should be strong, not a tweet from Martha's Vineyard.

Seems to me that most of that stuff was happening throughout the Cold War era (especially from the late 70s on), except it was Russia in Afghanistan and interest rates were historically high instead of low.Manhattan Buckeye;1636982 wrote:This isn't meant to be political, but does it seem to everyone else that the world is spinning apart?
I'm not old enough to remember the turbulent 60's, but am old enough to remember the Cold War and this era seems to surpass it in uncertainty. We're seeing:
-Russia/Ukraine crisis with an embiggened (it is a perfectly cromulent word) Russia that has no fear of the US and our allies
-Israel/Gaza conflict
-General North Korea idiocy
-Inability to secure the US borders resulting in a humanitarian crisis - and immigration issues in Western Europe, particularly the UK
-India/Pakistan continuing debacle
-US and allies still in Afghanistan
-An economy that is supported primarily by historically and artificially low interest rates
-Rampant inflation in basic consumer goods and education costs resulting in record debt levels
-NSA spying even on our allies and own citizens
Am I missing anything else? Again, not being political (as much as possible) but I hardly believe this was the hope and change that the world has been expecting.
The Israeli-Palistinian thing has been going on since Israel was declared a state, India and Pakistan have been going at it for decades, North Korea has had insane leaders for decades, and the US government has always spied on citizens in some form or another. The more things change...

Why is Fox the only one reporting the 23 Americans? Why are they holding back on American passengers?

No worries, Bush stared into Putin's eyes and could tell he was a good man. I'm sure Vladimir will do the right thing

"interest rates were historically high instead of low."
No kidding about that, dad bought a Chevy Blazer at the low, low, low rates of 7.9% around 1985. He thought it was the deal of the century.
Times have certainly changed!

I would rather center the discussion around the incident and not lessen it with inane political cheap shots. Instead it has devolved into anti-Obama shitfest with you and your ilk knob-slobbing each other over what he said.like_that;1637017 wrote:Sounds about right.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/07/17/malaysia-airlines-passenger-jet-shot-down-over-ukraine/"It wasn't the separatists, although Russia will try to blame them, or blame the Ukrainians," Peters said. "The Russians have not given the separatists complex, high-altitude air-defense systems. If this airliner was flying at 34,000 feet or any altitude close to that, it was shot down by Russian military air-defense systems perched on the Ukrainian border."
Peters said the Russian military has been shooting down Ukrainian military aircraft in recent weeks, and most likely mistook the airliner for a Ukrainian military aircraft.

Political forum.
And this part of being the President, regardless of how much it cramps his Martha's Vineyard style. You are the chief executive and a huge part of our world geography is hanging by a thread. Other Presidents have had to deal with this.

Well then talk about how the president will/could/should handle it and bring the conversation (lol) back to what happened. With dignity and directness that this activity shouldn't be tolerated. History has shown his experience, or lack thereof in the past - can we talk about the "shout-out" to some American Indian jokingly after the Army base shootings at Ft. W]Hood?
There is a place for decorum. Say what you will about the British Royal Family, they at least they act with class and proper dignity. If perhaps our Commander in Chief had some more experience, and well, anything, he'd represent our country better.
- edit, does my use of the quote function work to your benefit, Mohican...god your posts are terrible

In their official capacity....Jesus Christ on a tractor, do people realize how big of a deal this is? You have to go back to 1988 to get the US-Iran incident (which at least had some semblance of context), and before that the Russian-Korean incidents.
If reports are correct, Russian separatists killed nearly 300 people on a passenger flight. What if that was a British Airways flight? We'd be dangerously close to WWIII.

Too funny.
Now back to reality; US already said plane was shot down. Amazing how that happens in less than 24 hours, halfway around the world. Yet, TWA 800 (which was downed in the same manner) was magically left to flutter away over several years, while more convenient excuses were drafted and peddled.
