one of the mommy's in my wife's mommy group just named her daughter:
Ta-a (ta dash a)

Ignorant.

I'm partial to old German Names. My daughter has one, and likely, my other kids will too.

No one names their kid Skank anymore? I think the name, or nickname, Tiger will drop off too now.

haha, I'm good friends with an Esther, she often talks about how rare her name is.

I've got an Arabic name, so I'm all for unique names, as long as there's some kind of meaning behind it, and not just because it "sounds cute".....

I haven't heard a good Adolf in a while. It's funny...I hear a lot of people around me say "I want to give my kid a name that no one else has!" But when I suggest Adolf, which most certainly no one else has, they give me some disgusted look and then name their kid Traxion or something.

Here's something weird for you. My great-grandmother on my mom's side (right off the boat from Italy) was named Elvira, thus making her one of six Italian women of the last 250 years not named Gina or Maria. My great-grandmother on my dad's side (right off the boat from Hungary) was named Maria. But I think it's great that, if I had a daughter, I could name her Elvira and truthfully be able to say "It's an old family name".

My wife and I and our having a baby well any day now we have chosen Hadley for a girl or Graham for a boy. We felt like both were different yet no to cheesy.

All the old grandma/grandpa names aside; here are some names that were fairly common 30-40 years ago you do not see so often:
Amy (I went to school with hundreds of girls with this name
Jennifer (same here)
Melissa/Missy
Susan/Sue/Susie
John/Johnny
Robert/Bob/Robbie

I was in line at Giant Eagle's tonight and I saw something which reminded me of this thread. There was a two year old in the grocery cart behind me. The little tyke started to stand up when the mother yelled "Sit down, Larry."

There's a name you don't hear anymore.
