Besides... what do you all have to hide? if you're not drunk... why so worried/offended?

If you're offended with this, you're likely the same people that are offended that you have to take your shoes off in the TSA line (I'm willing to bet).
You didn't elaborate on why you think the police have probable cause to stop you. They don't.

What do I have to hide? Nothing. I bet you're likely the type of person who thinks it's ok for the NSA to track and log your phone messages and emails.

I shouldn't have to check apps or postings just to be able to drive down the street, and most checkpoints will not allow you to turn around and go another direction . They are usually set up as a trap where you go around a bend or over the hill, and BAM! you're in it.

As far as if I'm innocent "why should I be worried"?...because cops make mistakes, can be overly aggressive, and I don't feel that I should be stopped not for one minute if they have no reason to suspect that I'm drunk. If I'm driving erratically that's one thing. But the "why should I be worried if I'm innocent" arguement is a very slippery slope. I would guess that you don't understand the reasons for the fourth amendment.

Why I think the police have probably cause to stop you? Oh... Idk... maybe because these DUI checkpoints are typically setup on Fri or Sat nights? Typically late? Typically near the local town bar? Idk... suppose there's nothing 'probable' about that.

I don't have anything to hide, that's why I'm fine with them. Yeah they suck, but you know what, that's only if your caught breaking the law (driving while intoxicated or not wearing a seat-belt). And if i'm breaking the law, then i suppose i deserve a ticket.

And yes... I am fine with the NSA tracking/logging my phone calls, messages, and emails. Why? Because I have nothing to hide. If they want to see a picture of my dick, fine. So be it. /sarcasm But if the NSA catches Mohammed talking about plans to blow up a public building, then go ahead and log/monitor all the calls you need. Catch that f*cker.

Exactly. I have no response to that. Obviously, he doesn't mind government intrusion into his life and is a-ok with domestic spying.

Just when I thought that the Hines Ward/Pete Rose discussion was the dumbest thing I have read...I check this thread and find a new clubhouse leader. Unreal.

Exactly my question. Must have something to do with the illegal search HitsRus mentioned.

I have no problems with busting drunk/stoned drivers. If the actual "Please pull over, Sir" situations result from conditions that an officer could readily observe without knowing who the driver might be (impaired driving, expired plates, etc.), I have no problem with then checking out their identity and dragging them in for whatever might be out there.

However, it seems as if the typical haul for the night here in C-bus is 1-2 drunks, and a couple dozen for outstanding warrants after their ID's are checked out without any other reason for being stopped. It amounts to a de facto police checkpoint, with which I have HUGE problems.

This. Drunk drivers are Grade A piles of shit, need to be caught, and the penalties should be a lot tougher than they are so that these scumbags actually learn something, but I don't think checkpoints are fair either.

That's interesting. Can't say I disagree with you. And it begs the question if cops wouldn't arrest more DUI's if the manpower was instead out patrolling for clearly impaired drivers. And I'd think the outstanding warrants is usually "trivial" stuff...those people typically aren't that tough to find if the cops/DA really want to.

All of which really just adds up to a waste of resources and taxpayer dollars, 4th Amendment issues aside.
