While you think about about your homophobic gems, be sure to consider the fact cross country runners wear 2 inch shorts whole exposing their skeleton like physiques in the hopes of ever getting laid (by man or woman). Not to mention YOUR coach, who on numerous occasions has posted dick or anus pics.

While we are somewhat on the subject of mental toughness, consider what each sport does to that person's life. There is a reason why Forbes listed wrestlers as the hardest working employees in this country. Wrestlers aren't mentally weak pussies. They know when there is adversity in their lives they have to push through it. The best examples of CC runners we have on this site are:

-You, a basement dweller who bitched for 1.5 years on this site about not being able to find a job.

-ccrunner, who has reached his lifetime peak as a gym coach that couldn't afford AC until this year.

And last but not least...

-Said, who we all know has settled as a worthless POS.
I coach XC....but am not a XC runner or ever was....but my AC works great.

Surprised the thread went this way. Every sports has a lot of challenges and needs for mental toughness. I've witnessed the XC and track stuff but have incredibly few instances around wrestling...can't even speak intelligently about it. Many of the wrestlers at my school ended of being pretty worthless individuals but most also weren't very heralded wrestlers either. I imagine most great wrestlers obviously have a great work ethic. Most great XC runners that I have met are hard workers but also quite strange.

YTF would a decent wrestler WANT to make the XC team? Most athletes enjoy at least a little recognition, who would want to wallow in total anonymity with other anorexic dweebs?

Not surprised the same guy who can't stop drinking and driving doesn't know what cross training is.

Uhhh...couldn't drinking and driving by its very definition be considered a form of cross training?

If you subscribe to the notion that race car drivers are true athletes, I suppose.

I may have to save this gem in the archives. First time I've ever seen "cross country runner" (abbreviated "CC") and "tough" in the same sentence. Probably the last too.

I didn't play golf in high school b/c of football, but I was always decent at golf. I could shoot 38-42 on 9 in high school so I was pretty average for our golf team.

38-42 probably pretty typical #3 man unless a small school

It goes both ways. Three of the varisty runners from my high school's very good CC team quit football mid season in like sixth grade because they were getting the piss beaten out of them. One walked off the field crying and never came back. Different types of toughness required.

No. I just come from a family of good bowlers although this would have been the late70's and smoking and drinking at a bowling alley were the norm.

Name a sport women don't play in HS. Even the physically toughest sports in football and wrestling have had girls playing them successfully at the HS level.

CC runners are so tough they don't sleep with masks.

For me, I think I would be good at badminton if I only focused really hard on it.

I played baseball and football.

I would have been good at volleyball, real good but obviously only a handful of schools in the state have boys volleyball.

I would have absolutely sucked at cross country. Running long distances sucks.

I could run 40 yard sprints for hours, do it longer than any track or cross country runner in HS.

However, turn it into running laps around a football field or out in a park and I want to go crazy.
