As for Donald Sterling, I do want to comment on one thing regarding the infamous phone call. It's obvious that when Sterling commented that he did not want V. Stiviano to bring black guys to his games that he was speaking from a place of jealousy, and not a specific hatred of African American men. Simply put, Donald Sterling didn't want Magic Johnson's dick in the same building as his girlfriend (or Matt Kemp's, for that matter). Why Anderson Cooper and others can't wrap their heads around that is beyond me.
Then why didn't he say "don't bring a guy to the game"?

Sterling is definitely racist, if not knowingly then subconsciously. In the same way that many people of that generation are. I'm not arguing that. I'm not exactly sure why he said "black guys" instead of just "guys" -- he claims that Stiviano constantly threatened to specifically bring "black guys" to his games, probably in an effort, at least as far as the phone call in question goes, to bait Sterling into the comments he made -- but it's inferred, at least IMO, that Sterling simply was jealous and didn't want Magic's illustrious dick anywhere near his girl.

Out of 1000 people how many would keep there jobs if the media mobbed the recording of their private convos? I would not but I am one of the fewer on here who aren't without sin

Me neither. If I worked in the NBA and past conversations of mine with friends were released to the public, I'd be fined more than $2 million. While nobody but Donald Sterling knows what he really believes in his heart, I'm simply unwilling to vilify this guy as some kind of monster based on a 30 second window into his life.

Some of the comments he is alleged to have made regarding African Americans in the past are certainly unfortunate and wrong -- the guy is clearly guilty of certain prejudices, whether wittingly or not -- but most everyone has uttered something terribly regrettable in the privacy of their homes at one point or another, for reasons that aren't always explainable.

True. Fact is most people in good positions would be gone.

I am perfect and would never say anything that would possibly be offensive. ever.

Never claimed anything close to that, just that I've never made a racist statement over the phone or anywhere else. That you clearly have is your problem, not mine.

That's good -- especially since it doesn't take more than a few seconds of research to find out that Sterling has far more to answer for than one taped conversation. The real question would be why David Stern's smug-ass self never decided to do anything about that gigantic embarrassment to the league when his discriminatory housing practices were getting him major fines.

I don't blame him. You can't take away something someone owns because he's racist

If a contract someone enters into says you can, you can.

Your consistency is impressive. You're almost always wrong.

Except it doesn't which is why the NBA owners haven't voted on it yet. The NBA can ban Sterling and fine him but they can only force a sale of a franchise for a limited number of reasons(none of which Sterling violated).

It'll be an interesting legal battle to say the least.

It almost without question doesn't specifically mention racism but a broader description of behavior that a court may or may not rule applies here. Which is why my post started with "if", and why Classy's post is wrong, as usual.

Sure. But its no slam dunk that he's going to be ousted as owner like everyone thinks. I think the owners are going to eventually vote to oust him but Sterling has plenty of tactics that could keep him as owner for a long long time.

I think ultimately they want him gone, and he wants to pick who he passes the team on to (probably family, and probably bequeathed). So basically figure out succession and everyone is happy and wins.

The alternative is the old bastard ties this up in courts for years until he dies.

I'm fed up with these people who actually think their "boycott" is doing anything.

If anything, many of them are continuing to actually make Sterling speak truth -- a true boycott isn't turning your shirts inside out, putting them at halfcourt, wearing black socks, or whatever crap. Boycott him by not taking his money. Boycott him by taking his money and setting up minority scholarships or towards minority organizations. UCLA "boycotts" by turning away $3m...show Sterling what he's worth, use that money to setup minority scholarships!

Noooooo...everyone will continue to take his paycheck he gives them. They have no problem taking his money. If he was as worthless as what people are calling him, treating him, and labeling him, prove it.
