It really depends on where your job is. "Cleveland" is large. If you mean downtown then that will narrow it down. The commutes can suck up there, so it is something to consider before looking for a home. For instance, many a day I traveled to Mentor from downtown for work, and coming in from Mentor was bumper to bumper stopped traffic. There are a ton of little neighborhoods and towns to look into.

your best bet is to move 2 hrs due south on I-71 to the garden spot of Ohio.

Job isn't dowtown, it's a sales job covering mostly all of Northern Ohio, but not Toledo.

Shaker Heights looks nice. Reviews?

Shaker Heights is decent. Same with Cleveland Heights, IMO. I'd still stay away from the east side though. If you make a wrong turn, you're all the sudden somewhere you don't want to be.

Gotcha. You really need to go to Cleveland and just drive around for a few hours. I personally would not live near shaker or cleveland heights. Would rather be in Euclid, willoughby, mentor to the east, but would probably rather be in Lakewood, rocky river, westlake to the west. All areas have their shitty spots, but the east side has shittier spots all over (as in ghetto).

Like I said, you need to spend a couple days driving around. Plus there are a lot f home rentals in Lakewood area, so renting for 6 months to a year would be a smarter idea imo. You don't wanna buy a house in an area that you will never get the value back out of.

If I had to live near Cleveland, I'd pick east of 301, north of 480, and west of 252.

We're going to be renting. Decided we didn't rush into buying something, plus there is an unknown to my income.

I'm struggling to find many rentals though. Any recommendations to find houses for rent (don't want an apartment) other than Zillow, Craigslist, etc... ??
