Please tell me it's a lie that Orrville held their athletic booster fundraiser in Wooster's BW-3. Where's the pride? I refuse to believe that after a 56-0 pounding somebody thought fundraising in Wooster was a good idea. The local economy appreciates it, but as they say on Monday Night Countdown, "come on, man!".

I have seen bits and pieces of youth sports at many levels in the Orrville system. The current 5th graders are the best team in the pipeline. They are far from dominant, but they are definitely solid. I haven't seen anything resembling the good teams from Orrville's storied history. It's probably best to not focus on the past when comparing the current athletes at Orrville.

The girls teams will be solid with track , volleyball and basketball being good. We have a chance to go to state in vball depending on how much other teams in our district recruit. Basketball should be solid also with some good middle school teams that will blend in to help the high school down the road. Girls track will get even better with MS help. The boys teams will struggle in football especially. Basketball we'll be middle of the pack. We will never win the all sports trophy in this league. The sport that is cherished (football) will not be better than mid level in this league. We need to change leagues and that's not going to happen because no one wants us. We've tried all kinds of things to pull a league together and nothings worked. IT IS WHAT IT IS.

Going to hurt even more when CVCA bolts the PAC for the Suburban League, and Orrville still isn't accepted.

It would be an ideal fit! Most schools in the area and leagues in the area, like Orrville "right where we are" for many reasons of course.

We beat the PAC champ in football this season. Boys basketball beat the WCAL champs. The Portage Trail Conference said it best, "we know the league Orrville plays in, we don't want them in our league"..

Sucks for the middle school kids who have to play these much larger schools and never get that flavor of winning early on. This hurts our numbers down the road.

This. One million times over. It's not fair to the kids now to compare them to kids 30 years ago. You can say kids need to be tougher or work harder or whatever....but it's simply different. You're blind & dumb if you think it's not different.

Our town & society in general is wildly different than it was in the 80's.

Industry that brought families here from the Massillon/Canton are all closed up. Those families put down roots, bought homes, raised kids & were involved. We don't have that anymore.

Let's face it...we're a commuter town. People come here to work from 9 to 5 and then leave. JLG workers head south to Tusc. county and Smuckers folks head north to Summit & Medina County. Smith Dairy drivers are mostly 50+ and their kids are grown....probably moved away and not coming back. Those are your 3 big employers in town along with QC.

I heard Orrville no longer has a slow pitch industrial softball league....anyone care to guess why?? BECAUSE NOBODY THAT WORKS HERE, LIVES HERE!!! And if they do, they're 50+ and past their prime softball playing days. Pickup soccer games have replaced slow pitch softball.

Our town isn't thriving as it was in the 80's & 90's. Population is stagnant but the makeup of the town, demographically & economically, is what is changing. Look at the # of kids on free lunches in the schools. Probably at or near 50%.

Flash is right...we'll have some success on the girls side, but the 2 big money sports (football & boys basketball) will struggle. We've never had depth...but toss in a dip in talent and it's not too hard to figure out the outcome.

Your "fans" who expect us to beat Wooster and win 9 games a season in football are going to be in for some tough years with very misplaced expectations. It will take a toll on coaches too...and we'll probably lose some good ones along the way....just as we're risking losing athletes because they're tired of losing by the 8th grade.

Based on your performance in Week 10 last year, I tend to agree with this. Several beatings coming at the hands of Woo.

I do not care for the OCC as much as the next guy, but I was curious what Orrville's overall record was since joining the OCC in 2003....

We are 46-30 all-time...or a winning % of 60.5. Below is our league record by year. Interesting and pretty good!!

YR....Rec.
03'...3-3
04....6-1
05....5-2
06....6-1
07....4-3
08....5-2
09....6-1
10....5-2
11....5-2
12....0-7
13....1-6

So only 3 seasons have we had a .500 record or below with 2 of those coming in the last 2 years!

That certainly puts it in perspective. The Riders have more than competed in the OCC when they have the talent. When the well runs dry, everything looks greener on the other side.

Well get ready for the worst...we went through that for an almost 10-year stretch in Wooster after joining the Fed.

D1 caliber kids don't walk the halls of a d5 school every year.

We've been really spoiled.
