The doctor uses medicine derived from the logic of science and research; which is entirely antithetical to religious belief. Pretty incredible to watch an all powerful god lay at the feet of science when any real work has to be done.

Besides death or "kill" is only so terrible if you believe that there is nothing beyond life on this planet. While all human beings are animals and have a strong self preservation instinct, death , although not desired, is not necessarily the 'end'.
Further, some religions(Buddhism) focus particularly on life essentially being suffering...and focus on it's reduction. Iam not an expert on Buddhism, so don't ask me to explain, but you are welcome do your own research.
