What age do you think it is for a kid to start staying at home by himself for an hour or two?

If the kid has understanding, commons senses, been taught responsibilities of their action can follow instructions and respect their parents with good and proper behavior. Those qualities been proven over the years than 12 years older can hand alone for an hour or two. Now that when our kids where left at home for an hour or two during the day. We did call and confirm that every thing was OK and expected my daughters to answer the phone. I was very confident that my kids knew the rules and understood the responsibilities given to them, I believe we could have for an hour left them home in the house at the age of 9 years old. With today cell phone the link to parent and kids are easy, quick and convenient which helps in the checking in aspect.

My son is 8 and he's stayed at home by himself but no more than an hour. He does pretty well. Plus we've never actually left town, so we could get back to the house in a couple minutes if needed. He locks the door behind on our way out.

It really depends on the kid.

Yeah, I would say pretty normal kid, and would it make a difference if it was at a time the kid would probably be sleeping. Would be two hours max and would be only half a mile or less away.

I remember staying home when i was probably 10 for most of the day of if my parents went shopping out of town. I would beg to stay home, and they agreed because I was guaranteed to ruin the shopping trip with constant bitching. I never had any issues.

Depends on the kid, but most kids are OK by about age 8 or so. It also depends on how quickly you can get back home if problems develop.

If a trusted neighbor or relative is nearby and available, you might be more inclined to try it.

Kids only have to be a few months old. Duct tape it to the crib so it can't roll around.
You're free for a few hours to do what you want.

Boys earlier than girls, I'd say. For my oldest daughter, probably 10-11.

There were a time as my kids got OLDER that I was less inclined to leave them home alone ( the nephew in particular). Didn't want to get the call about twenty drunk teenagers being arrested at my house...
