The justice system at work
The man convicted of perpetrating one of the most gruesome and notorious mass killings in Chicago-area history has been awarded nearly a half million dollars in a civil lawsuit against a prison guard accused of punching him in the face.

James Eric Degorski, now 41, and accomplice Juan Luna were convicted of shooting and stabbing to death two restaurant owners and five employees during a botched robbery at a suburban Chicago diner in 1993. The seven victims’ bodies were discovered the next day in the restaurant's walk-in cooler and freezer.

The case went unsolved until 2002, when Degorski and Luna were arrested, tried and sentenced to life in prison. But shortly after arriving in Cook County prison in 2002, Degorski was allegedly beaten by prison guard Thomas Wilson in an unprovoked attack, Degorski’s attorney Jennifer Bonjean said.

Degorski suffered facial fractures and metal plates had to be surgically inserted into his face.

What's so stupid about it? Just because he was awarded 500k doesn't mean he'll see 500k.

He directly sued the prison guard and not the gubmint, so he can only get whatever that guy is worth.

Half of the money will be paid by Cook county, and the other half by Thomas Wilson, the guard

I bet i could get a 20 dollar bill and an Ipad donated to pay to have you stabbed in the neck.

If I were the judge, I would have awarded him the $500k, then suspended it or made him pay it out to the victims' families.

He does not deserve one dime...someone should "take care of the situation" within the system...

If it was 100% certain, guarenteed it was an unprovoked attack what do you expect the judge to do?

Dont get me wrong, I think the asshole deserves the death penalty and such, but guards just cannot go beat the fuck out of a guy no matter how bad his crime was.

If I had to guess I would expect that it probably was provoked by the asshole but I dont know the details.

This douche will never see a dime of that award. Nothing to see here move along kids.

Correct you don't know the situation and I will just assume he provoked it and move on.
