Guy wins an auction to hunt a very specific black rhino for $350k. This type of black rhino (older male that cannot breed) was going to be killed by the local government anyway. These dickhead rhino's will seek out and kill the younger bulls that can actually perpetuate the species. Instead they now have $350k to put towards conservation of the species. Of course, people are up in arms about this guy and are threatening his entire family. He's hired private security to protect him 24/7.
Do these assholes (the one's threatening the guy) understand how absolutely ridiculous they are? Have they not actually put in the effort to read the reasoning behind the auction and the hunt? It's mind boggling to me that they demonize "violence" against an asshole rhino yet laud the threat of death against a guy that is legitimately trying to help the species continue.

I don't agree with the threats but we shouldn't be hunting endangered species.

Even if killing the very specific age/sex of the species will benefit the population? As I said, the older males that CANNOT produce kill the younger bulls that can. That seems like a pretty bad thing for an endangered species, no?sleeper;1568289 wrote:I don't agree with the threats but we shouldn't be hunting endangered species.

Or a good thing. Why allow weak younger bulls to reproduce if they can't even handle an old bull?justincredible;1568291 wrote:Even if killing the very specific age/sex of the species will benefit the population? Why not let nature take its course? Also, who is to say that this is a one time deal? I think if you start auctioning off hunts like this it will snowball into just paying to go kill an animal. I also think the press it's getting is retarded, who gives a fuck? We don't give a shit about africans yet we're up in arms about their animals.justincredible;1568278 wrote:Guy wins an auction to hunt a very specific black rhino for $350k. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing the old bull gets to plenty of the young bulls before they are anywhere near strong enough to fight them off. It would be like a grown ass man fighting a child.sleeper;1568292 wrote:Or a good thing. Why allow weak younger bulls to reproduce if they can't even handle an old bull?

I'm more for killing people like that in our own country than the rhino.justincredible;1568291 wrote:Even if killing the very specific age/sex of the species will benefit the population? I agree that the auction is not newsworthy. It's the death threats against the guy that bother me.Raw Dawgin' it;1568295 wrote:Why not let nature take its course? The species isn't in danger because old bulls are killing younger bulls before they've had the opportunity to reproduce; it's a cop out. The problem is orientals and their voodoo bullshit medicine that use the rhinos horns and the thirst for ivory for rich people. This is nothing more than a corrupt government justifying a revenue stream with bullshit.justincredible;1568300 wrote:I could be wrong, but I'm guessing the old bull gets to plenty of the young bulls before they are anywhere near strong enough to fight them off. I'll give you that poachers are a big part of the problem as well, but the old bulls killing the young bulls IS NOT good for the species. I also don't care that people are against the auction and hunt. It's the death threats against the guy.sleeper;1568307 wrote:The species isn't in danger because old bulls are killing younger bulls before they've had the opportunity to reproduce; it's a cop out. No poachers ARE the problem. This whole nonsense that old bulls are causing anything more than a drop in the bucket of difference in the rhino population is a joke.justincredible;1568312 wrote:I'll give you that poachers are a big part of the problem as well, but the old bulls killing the young bulls IS NOT good for the species. Yeah, agreed on the death threats however I have no problem with the public backlash.

When there are only a few thousand of a given species left, any threat to the breeding population is a problem.

I feel like instead of auctioning it off to be killed they could have sold it to a zoo or private collector or something. No need to get all rabble rabble about the auction like some have been but I don't think it's necessarily the best message to send.

So the best way to solve this problem is to kill more rhinos. Come on man, it's a joke; way to be bought and sold by a corrupt government.justincredible;1568315 wrote:When there are only a few thousand of a given species left, any threat to the breeding population is a problem.

The great thing here is we can disagree without threatening death against each other's families.
