Can I play my old standard DVDs on a BluRay? Or would I need to keep my current DVD player?

Some older movies definitely wouldn't be worth the money to upgrade IMO, but then new stuff like Avatar definitely would.

You can play DVD's on Blu-Ray players. Your best bet is too looking to a BR player that also upconverts DVD. This will add some quality to your DVD picture.

Yep, because that's the only thing it is good for besides collecting dust in my entertainment stand. :)
