What is the best movie on blue-ray in terms of video quality?

I have heard that Disney movies are all good ones.

Anything Pixar/Disney or Dreamworks will look nice. Some movies with CGI features look nice. Your standards comedies/chick flicks will have little enhancement.

WALL-E is pretty damn amazing. Can't wait for Avatar to come out..

I think animated looks the best even in HD TV along with Blu-Ray

Is it safe to say that with some movies you won't notice much of a difference between dvd and blu-ray? I ask, because with the movies that I have watched on blu-ray, I haven't been "blown away" with the video aspects of the movies. I am missing out on the audio portion as I haven't upgraded that part.

Yes, that's very true in some instances. Most movies have at least a slight improvement, but there are those older movies that look pretty much the same as their DVD counterpart.

As for an excellent or even OK blu ray, you should definitely be seeing a difference in picture quality. There are some websites that show side by side comparisons of blu ray vs dvd of the same screenshot, which may be helpful.

When I'm making a decision on whether to upgrade from a DVD copy to a Blu Ray copy of something in my collection, I always check out a few web sites and see if they are worth making the upgrade..

To really tell the difference with blu ray you need:
-- 1080p TV
-- really need at least 40" to see the difference (depending on how far you are sitting from the screen)
-- blu ray player connected to the tv via HDMI cable
-- a good blu ray movie

This isn't the exact one I used, but it looks to have pretty much all of the same settings as my PS3.

Agreed.

I think anything that is computer enhanced looks alot better on bluray.

And as mentioned before, check the avsforum site, it is very good when dealing with bluray

That seems to be the standard from what I have read.

Some of the older movies really don't look that great on bluray. I bought Goodfellas and couple other 80's/90's movies and they are not worth the price hike to be honest.

As others have said, animated and CGI look the best on blu-ray. That's where the enhancements really shine.

District 9 was very good on blu-ray..

Ironman is another one that looks great on blu-ray, as does The Dark Knight..

I heard Cars looks fantastic, but I've never seen it on blu-ray. I know all of the pixar movies are supposed to be pretty amazing, but I know for sure WALL-E is.

Pretty much any movie that uses cgi, animations, explosions, etc.. looks better on blu-ray. Other movies, like the aforementioned 500 days of Summer should suffice with the DVD upscaling.

Spiderman 3 looked pretty cool on blu ray.

Cars is pretty cool on blu-ray. It was the first blu-ray I had seen played and it was absolutely amazing.

If you have been watching Regular DVD's on your PS3, then normal "live action" Blu Rays, you aren't going to see much of a difference. the PS3 has some of the best up converting technology available. So if you pop in a regular widescreen version of let's say, The Departed, you aren't going to notice that big of a difference when you go to Blu Ray.

Up was pretty cool.

Transformers 1 and 2 were great on Blu Ray, Cars and Wall-E are amazing on Blu Ray.

Like everyone else said, any movie with a lot of CGI or computer animation there is a big difference.

I though Gladiator was pretty amazing.

Gladiator was actually rated as one of the worst done blu-ray conversions.. Obviously it still looks good, but I guess the audio isn't as sharp as it could be..

I really think that the audio on BD is much better that the pic on BD when compared with DVD. But, you do need a good surround system to experience that...
