I refuse to follow the Crew if the only way that I can see them is to buy a ticket. I was there from the first game at the 'Shoe, but refuse to patronize them now. If they would broadcast their games to a wider audience I, and alot of others would begin to follow them closer and attend the games in person.
Maybe the intent of restricting TV access was to drive more fans to actually attend games in person, but it has had an opposite effect, IMO
While I agree with most of it...we don't really know IF or WHAT the other TV packages were. I don't fault CCSC for picking that deal if it made financial sense -- in terms of visibility or interest in garnering sponsorship through television deals. It's a crappy package, I know...and I'm not even in Ohio. But, I do know 2 hours from Ohio, in Kentucky, I couldn't watch CCSC games through TWC.
It sucks. I don't blame them if it's all that were available either. It's not like before the TV deal were signed they were getting good crowds (in the last few years they said they averaged around 14,000...I know that to be false because I watched games there from 2011-2013 and they'd be lucky to have 10,000 on many games I went to). I haven't looked, but what was viewership like when they were on Fox Sports Ohio? That'd be a telling sign of what package offers may have come around.
