Obviously I can not make him whatever I want him to be. I doubt I can make him into a Buddhist, critic of the 2nd Amendment, opponent of hunting. Because there is no evidence to support any of those descriptions of him. There is overwhelming evidence of his homophobia and racism.

Sure you can. Just peice together bit's and peices of statements using individual words to create such evidence.

I will concede, however, if you say you can't you won't...which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy because it results in you once again making him what you want.

individual words would not create evidence acceptable evidence to most people. His whole interview and whole sermon supply the evidence to show his racism and homophobia

it is too bad you use your intellect to practice sophistry, but I guess you don't see it because of your perspective. A whole interview, a whole sermon provide the information to make an objective judgment. The prevalence of evidence show this man's biases and prejudices

...and yet that whole interview and whole sermon is just small sample of his entire life.....but those small pieces help you define exactly what you what him to be. I applaud your positioning.

his whole life, ok. He grew up in a parish known for it intense racism, a kkk stronghold with a history of racial violence. After living there and observing the system he describes the victims as happy and contented, he gives his implied endorsement of the system. On homosexual his sermon and interview, two separate statements, under quite different circumstances definitely show his homophobia.

...because that's what you want him to be. It works quite well for you. He has made many statements which lend to creating an opposing conclusion as yours. I think your tact of not applying them to your desired outcome is an excellent tact.

Tact? Sir\M'am you could not be more wrong, on innumerable occasions I have been accused of being tactless. But in the case of Mr. Robertson when he seemingly speaks his convictions as in a his church sermon, he demonstrates his homophobia which is repeated in his interview. When he reminisces about the good old days in Cadoo Parish he gives his support to a despicable system practiced in one its most virulent forms right there.

Your focus on the above examples provides the exact information needed to determine Mr. Robinson is exactly who you want him to be. You are doing an excellent job in highlighting the information.

Robertson lived for for many years in an segregated system that benefited his race and subjugated another race. He lived in a community known for racial violence to enforce that system. That system has at least in part collapsed and the injustice of it almost universally accepted. He chooses to paint a false picture of the victims and give his implied support for system. That makes him a racist.
He has chosen on repeated occasions over many years to attack homosexuals and in sermons before congregations condemn not just their acts, but them.
