And whether you want to believe it or not, it IS possible for OSU to not do something to perfection.

Oh please. Give me a break. Just stating the obvious. With OSU now paying their asst. coaches on par with some of the SEC schools, Meyer leading the program, and it being OSU, they are always going to attract the top asst. coaches. Like it or not, that is the reality of where this program is at now.

My point is not that they won't try and get the best. But to just think they could never make a hire that doesn't pan out is ignorance. It happens all the time, at all schools. So many variables.

Where did anyone say OSU could never make a hire that won't pan out?

Yours and CBF's comments make it quite clear.

I don't disagree with this. It does happen. No question. But this seems like a no brain hire. The guy has a proven track record. We aren't talking about a lead coordinator here. He is a position coach. One with a ton of experience, great rep, great recruiter, and respected. Not sure how this one wouldn't pan out. But I see your point.

Being confident OSU will make a good hire = saying they can never fail?

Wrong.

I guess I'm a half full type of guy.

No no. The hire is a great one. I'm talking about the comments put forth that no one should ever be worried because OSU will always get the best.

Nothing wrong with that. OSU is in a good place where that is more likely than not.

And to debunk your theory even further. If I don't see some improvement in our secondary in terms of basic fundamentals, that white haired lunatic Coombs can take a hike also. :D

So Chris Ash is Co-Defense Coordinator and Secondary Coach. Where does that leave Coombs?

From what I understood...Withers was the co-defensive coordinator. But was also in charge of secondary/pass defense. Fickell had dline/LB. Thus I am willing to give him a pass currently, and another year to show if he is capable of running the defense.

I am very excited about both of these hires.

I'm hoping that Johnson will continue the tradition of great DL's from his days at Penn State. I think he has alot to work with. Losing Vrabel is costly, but Johnson has a solid rep as a coach, including more experience than Vrabel and an equally solid rep as a recruiter.

Ash is a Big 10 vet and, hopefully will be a step up from Withers and run a more aggressive defense from a secondary perspective.

I'm stoked to see what these guys can do with the talent that they have.

On top of Johnson being the Dline coach, he was also given the title of ass. head coach.

Ha ha LJ! Make that asst. head coach! ;)
