The movie jumped the shark for me with the dream sequences/drug trips or whatever it was. Would've been 20 minutes shorter and so much better without that.vball10set;1841236 wrote:finally got around to watching The Revenant...Leo was great, but the movie was meh...6.5/10
Opening scene is top 5 of all time though.

Bottom of mine has been dying to see new Point Break, so I watched it with him. 2.5/10 utter trash. Horrible acting, horrible plot, some of the visuals were cool. OG Point Superior in every way.

"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" 8/10
i must confess - never saw "Khan" until a few years ago. By then, it seemed dated and corny, even though I heard my friends swear up and down it was the best of the Shatner Trek flicks.
But, when taken into the context of the - six? - movies that crew made, it is respectable and enjoyable - although the enjoyment was tempered because my wife kept ogling Ricardo Montalban's pecs and wondering if they were real. And the initial re-boot with Chris Pine certainly were faithful to the story elements and characterizations found in "Khan".
There is the running joke that the even-numbered movies in the series were always better than the odd ones. That makes sense: I hated the first one (one long warp-drive SFX with a ridiculous ending, although the premise had potential). Missed II. Saw III, hated it. Missed IV in the theaters, although I caught in on cable and fell in love with it, and it remains my favorite in the canon.
After watching "Khan", the wife and I then watched "ST V: The Undiscovered Country" - and the running joke held true. Not a great movie, horrible SFX, the plot deterioriated into a corny climax. However, I did like this line from Spock, spoken after a Klingon general says he cannot ask his junior officer to stand down, per Spock's request:
"Damn you, sir - you WILL try."
LOL - I figured that was residue from Spock's learning to use profanity in Star Trek IV, which with Spock's delivery alone made it a memorable flick:
Kirk: "Exaggerate. You've done it before. Can't you remember?"
Spock: "The hell I can't."
Kirk: "Spock, where the hell's the power you promised me?"
Spock: "One damn minute, Admiral."

Hacksaw Ridge- 7.5/10. The battle scenes were pretty good, but the whole movie all I could think was Tropic Thunder with how over the top some of it was. (Yes I know it's a biography). Also never been a fan of Garfield.

Keanu - 5.5/10. I laughed at some really stupid stuff, but even though it's not a long movie, it seemed to drag at the end.

The only thing I didn't understand was the actress winning best actress for playing Nurse Ratched. I thought she did ok, but I wasn't blown away by the performance.
I need to watch Chinatown now.
One of the greatest ever, in my opinion ----- had it all. The best thing is, it is one of those movies that you can watch many times and each time pick up stuff you missed previously; there are some great zingers that can go under the radar the first couple times watching.

Quite possibly one of the worst movies I've ever watched.

Was on HBO the other night. Flipped to HBO, and I never had watched it, so figured Id finish. I missed the first 10 minutes, but goodness, the rest was atrocious.Automatik;1842557 wrote:Quite possibly one of the worst movies I've ever watched.

It was so bad that I actually think Wahlburg was acting that bad on purpose.Automatik;1842557 wrote:Quite possibly one of the worst movies I've ever watched.

Beauty and the Beast - 8/10. Really loved it, but I'll be honest it has never been my fave Disney movie, so I can't go any higher.

Rogue One....4.5
I don't get all the hype. Seemed rather slow and uninteresting, and I probably missed most of the subtle nods to past films. IMO, only the first two prequels were worse.

Saw Skull Island Saturday night. 6/8...surprisingly good. Great cast, and setting it in 1973 was excellent. Essentially Apocalypse Now with monsters...win/win IMO.

Watched The Drop with my wife last night. Her first time seeing it. My third. A strong 8/10. Hardy is excellent.

I watched keeping up with the Joneses. It was funny. Gal Gadot was hot. Zach Galifinakis played the same awkward guy he always plays.

I've seen it, and while it's pure shit, that honor currently goes to Darjeeling Limited, as far as I'm concerned. I kept waiting for the plot to fluctuate ... in ANY direction.Automatik;1842557 wrote:Quite possibly one of the worst movies I've ever watched.
This is why I don't watch Wes Anderson movies. I think he's a hack.
