Jurassic World is the best of the JP sequels. A typical summer movie. 7/10.

Keep reading that Chris Pratt being groomed to be the next Indiana Jones. I can see it.

Saw Jurassic World as well. Wasn't a fan...felt REALLY cheesy with some of the 1-liners, trying to throw in jokes during serious parts, the girl worker in the control room was the absolute worst. 5/10.

Thought Jurassic World was great. As jmog said... easily the 2nd best of the JP movies. LOVED the homage scenes that paid homage back to the original Jurassic Park...

- moment of heroism with the T-Rex and a flare
- the original Jurassic Park t-shirt worn by actor Jake Johnson’s character (Lowery)
- the two Jurassic Park Jeeps and the famous night-vision goggles from the original film
- Most people might not remember this, but BD Wong (Dr. Henry Wu) was the original 'mad scientist' who engineered the dinosaurs in the original JP
- the injured Apatosaurus/Brontosaurus was a nostalgic throwback to the injured Triceratops in the original film
- the Velociraptors to the rescue

Sure Jurassic World wasn't cinematic gold, but it was a nostalgic movie that takes you back to the special moment in your life 20 years ago, when we all witnessed one of the legendary films of our time. It was "good enough", and Chris Pratt proved once again his star is rising fast & bright.

Just saw JW. Thought it was really good. Chris Pratt can do no wrong in my eyes.

The ending was a bit much but that's to be expected.

Where did they film this JW at? Did they shoot it in Hawaii again. I never heard anything about that before we left the islands, so I'm guessing they didn't.

JW was very good, for what it was.

Wouldve been much better had the trained raptors not flipped 2 seconds the first time released...

Also wasn't a fan of 4 dinosaurs battling as the climax. Again, would've been better of Chris Pratt was leading a pack of Raptors like he trained them for.

Agreed. I remember Wong from before..and of Law and ORder SVU fame of course!

I thought the line was prophetic when they said 20 years ago people were just happy with seeing dinosaurs, now they need more....' Same for the park and movie goers as well. Most of you all dont remember when the first came out. That technology was amazing to see the dinosaurs that lifelike.

I really enjoyed it. I ddint see the part where the original T Rex was in it and a scar on its neck.

Anyone see the new barbasol commercials advertising the special cans with Jurassic park on them?

Pitch Perfect 2. I'd give it an 8/10. Pretty good movie and I love Marcus Theatre. Nothing like watching a movie in a recliner.

Very prophetic. Wasn't just a euphemism for the park, but was also a euphemism for the MOVIES as well. Look at how many dinosaurs were in the original film... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cloned_animals_in_Jurassic_Park now look at how many people want/need to see (see JP 2, 3, and World). People can never get enough. Just like the said in the film, you see one dinosaur, and then people are demanding for more, Bigger, Better, Faster, Deadlier dinosaurs. It's the same with the film.

I fear it will have to be another 20, maybe even 30 or 50 years before we can see another GOOD Jurassic Park. The novelty of simply seeing a film about dinosaurs just wears off, and what we're left with is nothing but casualty films like JP 2 and JP 3.

I loved JP when it came out, but it didnt really have staying power to watch it over and over again when it is on tv. I still like the movie, but that newness just wore off. It was still good, but without that wow factor...
The new one is very good. The violence, the tie in with the original I think is what really won me over.

The first one, with how realistic it was back then, when we all saw the brachio's for the first time, when they were all in the jeeps, with the music going, etc it was awe inspiring for a 90's film.

Oh, and compared to the book, the first movie sucked (I liked the movie for its awe inspiring effects, hated it for not keeping close enough to the book). If you want a good read and never have, read the first book. Much different than the movie, and the ending is WAY different.

In reading up on the latest movie I saw that Spielberg was meeting with Crichton aobut a totally different project when he was told about something else he was just starting (Jurassic Park) and wanted the rights immediately even before the book was completed.
I read The Lost World but none of the others.
I liked how they used some of that same music from the first...brings ya back to 20 years ago.

Ahhhh disagree there. I thought the original JP definitely had staying power and definitely is a must-watch over-and-over again on TV.

I've heard this before... as good as the original film was, the book is FAR better. I've never read the book, but it's something I'd like to eventually read.

There are 3 books by Crichton (he passed away a few years ago) that are must reads. He had quite a few good books (Andromeda Strain, Sphere, Congo, Prey, etc) but he had 3 books that were absolutely must reads. They were Jurassic Park, Timeline, and State of Fear.

3 of the best modern books I have ever read.

Oh, and since it is a movie thread, they absolutely ruined Timeline when they made a movie as well, and they will NEVER make a movie of State of Fear as it wouldn't fit Hollywood's liberal agenda...which makes it even a better read.

Think about those type of 'disaster' movies. There are LOTS of people dying, but none of the main/developed character's die. In the first one none of the professors (Malcolm and the two paleo profs) died, the owner didn't die, the 2 kids didn't die, etc.

In the new JW (SPOILERS!) none of the main characters die...

The original book did NOT hold the "don't kill the main characters" mind set we'll just say without ruining it. Also, the way the book ended vs the movie was much less "story tale ending" which made it more interesting as well. There wasn't a nice helicopter ride off the island with some peaceful flying dinosaurs flying in the distance.

The way the first book ended most DEFINITELY would have lead to MUCH better sequels if they had stuck with it as well. You seriously need to read the book. I don't say that about many books that I read.

Jurrasic Park was and still is an amazing movie. It has staying power for sure.

And Jurrasic Park 2 was also awesome!! Vince Vaughn was great.

IMO, saying JW was the best of the sequels isn't much of a compliment. The third one was complete garbage and probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The second one is a little better but not much. JW has the best cast mainly because Gray/Zack > Tim/Lex. I really like JW but they made it way too corny. The final 20 minutes was basically a battle royal between the raptors, t-rex, i-rex, and the sea monster.

Anyone think they left it open for another? Dr. Wu and some in the Ingen guys escaped with some DNA right?

I believe Chris Pratt has already stated he is signed on for another one.

My thoughts exactly. Better than the other sequels but that is NOT saying much. The last battle scene was definitely corny and too played out. Like I said earlier "We need more teeth" was WAY overboard corny. They have to have better writers than that.

Honestly, I thought the part with Letty holding Dom was more of a tear-jerker than the ending with Walker. I have a relative battling memory loss, and that scene just hit me right in the feels.


I saw Jurassic World over the weekend as well, and it was better than I thought. I loved the homage to the original, and Jimmy Buffet's cameo was hilarious! My wife has never seen the original, so I was pointing out all the references to the original film. I couldn't believe that she's never seen it. I remember going to the theater when I was seven and being scared out of my mind watching the original movie. I remember it being this huge deal that Spielberg was bringing dinosaurs to life on film. JP is one of my favorite movies of all time. I give JW an 8/10.

SPOILERS...
My only gripe with the movie is the one major mistake the leading woman did. She allowed those guys into the Indominus Rex's cage without FIRST checking the GPS tracker. They ran the thermal scans and found nothing, and then opened the cage. Why not run the thermal scan, and then the GPS scan BEFORE letting humans inside the cage? I guess we wouldn't have a movie then? Haha.

Second week in a row that I've gone to the movies (a record for me...). We went to see Inside Out. It was pretty good. Definitely a tear-jerker. I give it an 9/10.

I had seen 'em before, but watched Best in Show and 2 Guns on HBO this weekend. Also caught Let's Be Cops which I hadn't seen before.

Best in Show = 6, maybe 7, out of 10.
2 Guns = 7, maybe an 8
Let's Be Cops = 5 (it definitely had it's funny moments, but nothing special)
