Predictions as of 12/2/2013

BCS National Championship - Ohio State (B1G) vs Florida State (ACC)
Rose Bowl - Arizona State (PAC 12) vs Baylor (AL#2)
Sugar Bowl - Auburn (SEC) vs Oregon (AL#3)
Orange Bowl - Central Florida (AAC) vs Alabama (AL#1)
Fiesta Bowl - Oklahoma State (BIG 12) vs Northern Illinois (AL#4)

At-large selection order:

1. Orange Bowl (loses FSU)
2. Rose Bowl (loses OSU)
3. Sugar Bowl (#2 pick)
4. Fiesta Bowl (#3 pick)

The Orange Bowl will undoubtedly select Alabama as the first at-large. The Rose Bowl, not wanting a Pac 12 vs Pac 12 game, will bypass Oregon and select Baylor at #2. The Sugar Bowl, not wanting the non-BCS team, will pick Nike and Oregon #3. The Fiesta Bowl will then be forced to take Northern Illinois.

If Michigan State loses and Ohio State makes the championship game I would be shocked if MSU isn't in the Rose Bowl.

You think the Rose would take MSU over every other at-large team? Even over a 1-loss Baylor? Also, to be eligible, you HAVE to be top 14 in the BCS. MSU is 10 right now. Couldn't a loss potentially drop them out of the top 14?

Missouri is better than LSU and Wisconsin. Im not saying Mizzou would definitely win if they played either of those teams but it would definitely be a minor upset if they lost.

I would've disagreed with Wisky until they shit the bed against Penn State.

Arguably, Wisconsin was one of the top 5 non-AQ teams, IMO. Until that loss at least.

Stanford will get in over Oregon.

With OSU in the NCG wouldn't the Rose just pick MSU to preserve their prefered B1G vs. Pac matchup instead of Baylor?

They would, but criteria to be an at-large is you must finish top 14 in the BCS standings. MSU is 10th. A loss could drop them below.

Not with 3 losses (after Stanford loses to ASU).

Does he have Oklahoma State (would have to beat OU) or Baylor (would need to beat UT/OSU lose to OU) winning the Big XII?

The only real lock is Northern Illinis in the Fiesta Bowl. At this point.

FSU vs OSU would be the only game that even interests me.

Ya, but look at the standings...

15. LSU
16. UCF

I don't see MSU getting dropped below either of them for losing to a team going to the NCG in the conference championship.

Only way that would happen is if OSU just completely blows out MSU by 3+ TD's.

Yeah, if MSU is eligible for the Rose they will be going there. They'll do anything for Pac-12-B1G.

I believe they are obligated to take the B1G/PAC-12 winners unless both of them are playing in the national championship game (which isn't going to happen)

They would have to select MSU as an at-large, but yeah, I can see where MSU with the B1G draw would be honored.

Sleeper, that's my prediction. ASU wins the Pac 12 and Stanford gets a 3rd loss, meaning they aren't top 14 AND would be behind Oregon.

And this mind set is what bothers me. People want to use the Wisky loss as another reason why the Big10 is crappy. But if this scenario, obviously different teams, were to happen in the SEC...then its because the SEC is so deep and competative.

Just like when they took Illinois in '07; that team was not a BCS team but they did beat OSU.

The mindset is more than Wisky, IMO, was a top 12 team prior and had a BCS bid locked up. They had blown everyone out prior (except their 2 losses, both close) and then dropped a home game to a team who was .500 in the conference.

Yeah, it's not a terrible loss, but it's a bad one and definitely fits the bill of "shit the bed."

This would be the equivalent of Missouri, Auburn or South Carolina losing at home to Ole Miss or Vanderbilt with a BCS game on the line. That would be a BAD loss.

Don't disagree in terms of how it works for Wisky themselves. But in terms of conference strength, the media talking heads were using it as more evidence that the Big10 sucks. But when this scenario happens in SEC or even other conferences, its about how deep and strong the conference is. Not pulling this shit out of my ass. I hear and watch it directly on TV. Palmer and Pollack were beyond ridiculous last nite on the BCS show. And I like them both as studio guys.

Great objective (not written by someone at ESPiN) article.
