I don't think it's funny or strange. You attempted to defuse or exit the situation. You can be charged with assault, but not murder for subsequently defending yourself after you attempted to remove yourself from the situation.

It would also presumably be quite a daunting task to win that defense. I'd say 0% chance without a witness or video proof the encounter you had started, and danger you presented, had clearly ended.

Why would you ever turn your back to someone you perceived as any kind of threat?

The "it's fucking Tiernan" defense should do it. Would work for me.

Lets say Im 5'8 150 (pretty real lol), and the guy I attack is 6'4 250. After I realize im about to get my ass beat, I run away. Whilst running, he hits me. IF i then shoot him, under Stand My Ground, I have a valid affirmative defense.
