To lease? Damn.

When we had two car payments it was just under $800/month. But that was 0% financing to buy. Once this car is paid off we won't have a car payment for a long, long time. Hopefully never.

I plan to buy out at end of the lease(s), which will hopefully lower total PMT. $290 for one, $450 for the other.

What do you lease for $450? My truck payment was only a little more than that and I financed the entire thing and it was a $34,000 truck.

Honda CRV, EX-L. Zero down. High payment with great residual.

As long as the interest rate is 0-1% you're solidly in the black. If someone offers me that type of interest rate I don't mind financing anything.

What happened to the whole "homesteading plan"?! I would think your wife doesn't need an "internship" for that...

That is years away. I'm not going to homestead in urban Cincinnati so we kind of need to support ourselves until we move. Also, she plans to work a regular job wherever we end up. I'll be the one doing the actual homesteading. Which will take a few years of transitioning once we finally do decide on our destination and move. It would be pretty stupid to just jump in and do it with no real planning.

Is that "homesteading?" It seems to me like you'd be the stay-at-home dad/husband. Or...your full-time work would be "farming."

I want to eventually work my land as my main/only source of income. Call it whatever you want, not sure that the actual label is all that important.

not adhering to the "cookie cutter" lifestyle of materialism and narcissism that the social norm mapped out for you?

More so mean it's for (nearly) nobody.

It's like taking a horse and buggy to work because you're tired of paying for gas.

This alone should be proof that you're not in the right state of thinking, Justin.

Wife worked for about 5 months before preggers so we've been 1income for 5 years. We didn't have to adjust because we are pretty tight and I make bank, son.

Yeah, if I made what you did this wouldn't take any adjustment.

I'm really dreading Jessica going back to school, but I'm supportive of it. She's already got a bachelor's degree and wants a PhD, so she's looking into loan forgiveness programs through certain parts of the State of Indiana. I'm not sure how practical it will be, but she wants to continue to work while she goes back to school, but I'm REALLY dreading adding her to my insurance when we get married in April. Luckily my company has started a "Wellness Path" deal where your rates can be cut by 2/3 if you qualify, and we will. A single income will blow, but it will be worth it because she'll be making good money eventually and my salary isn't too shabby.

Yeah, something like that would definitely be an option.
