So, Idaho's a state that is host to hoards of sexually repressed idiots? Good to know.

The problem is that it only takes one or two.

You are not very adept at a logical discussion.

For the 1000th time, I don't agree with the firing.

With that said, if a teacher posted a video online of her having sex with her lover where the kids could see, would you say she shouldn't be disciplined?

Teachers of children for whatever reason are supposed to adhere to a different public decency 'standard' than most professions.

If I post a video online of my wife and I going at it and someone at work sees it I probably deal with some shame/whatever but don't get fired.

If a teacher of minor children does it they are likely to get fired.

If I post a picture of me holding my wife's breast online, I might get some backlash from conservative family but nothing else.

If a teacher posts it where their students can see it, they should expect some sort of reprimand from the administration.

This is a well known fact whether you agree with it or not. So, if I was a teacher I would be MUCH more careful with what I put in a public forum (although I'm already pretty conservative with what I put out there).

You have to realize this is not just with teachers anymore however.

One of the FIRST things employers do now when they interview someone for a prospective position is look them up on Facebook. If the profile and pictures are public and they see 'racy' pictures and statuses about getting hammered every night then they don't hire the person.

Talk to any serious HR people and they will confirm this. What you put in FB/Twitter/Etc most definitely can affect your career.

I have one minor and two adult children. My older two daughter is a jr in college (early childhood education) and son is in the army. They get told to be wise with what they post on facebook etc.. I check in every now and then and if I ever saw anything of potential "risky" consequence I would advise them to remove it.

This is excellent advice. It doesn't happen often but every now and then my cousin (raised as my brother) and sister-in-law (our goddaughter) posts photos with them being drunk, or otherwise not being professional. We tell them to remove it.

Sorry, the internet isn't private.

I do find it interesting/amusing that people put information on something called the World Wide Web and have an expectation of privacy.

People in this country are too uptight about sex. OMG a boob that is covered up is touched, time to report it. Some lady probably caught her son jerking it and got pissed instead of being a good parent

No, it's much smarter to be anti-establishment, get fired and then live off the public dole.

You're an at-will employee...Better figure out the rules and abide by them if you have hopes of continuing to be an employee.

This thread is amazing. No wonder this girl was so clueless - it's epidemic.

The people who employ you care. If your personal life reflects negatively on the company, and/or costs them customers...you're gone, no matter how well you think you do your job.

Call it BS if you want, if it was your money on the line I guarantee you'd be singing a different tune.

Raw Dawgin' it;1532186 wrote:I said it shouldn't, but clearly it does. How I live my life outside of work is my business, so as long as i do my job, who fucking cares? If i bang hookers on weekends in the privacy of my home, and say my boss walks bye my house one night and sees one leaving, does that mean I should be fired? I didn't flaunt I like hookers, but I'd probably get fired, even though it's my private life..
What about this is so difficult for you to understand? Your boss likely wouldn't care about that, but when you post pictures of it on Facebook for people to see, then it becomes a problem; especially when your job impacts the education of students. When the 0.01% of the population that's ridiculous enough to complain about it do, the company has to make a decision: Ignore them and wait and see what negative consequences it garners, or just replace said employee. And replacing teachers is hardly difficult to do.

Like everyone else on this thread, I don't see anything wrong with the picture. But stories like these are becoming increasingly common and each time the reasoning behind the firing becomes a little more absurd. There's a list of jobs where the employee has to be incredibly reserved about what they post, and teachers may be at the top of it. All it takes is one person to be offended to cause problems.

I want this removed. They are happy and I find that to be immoral.

I don't agree with her being fired, bunch on PC bullshit.

But on the other hand, sometimes you need to grow up and professionalism has to come into play. Not sure why you would post that pic on facebook.

Yeah, I touch my wife's boobs all of the time. That doesn't mean we take photos of it and mail it to all of our friends.

I have a GREAT relationship with my wife (and did when we were dating and engaged).

Not one time did I post a picture of us engaged in foreplay or sex -- both of which are fun and healthy.
