I agree with those who blame both sides. The religious group and the athiests are really not all that different from each other though. They seek to be identified with a belief system and often work directly and indirectly to impose their belief on others. Christians who claim to know the will of God are amusing as are atheists who claim to disdain religion while essentially forming their own dogmatic community.

South Park nailed this. We need tolerance, but we don't necessarily need ACCEPTANCE. If the charitable group didn't tolerate another group that is a problem. That doesn't mean they have to ACCEPT anyone.

It is crazy that Trey Parker and Matt Stone understood the issue over a decade ago, yet people don't get it.

No different than a Jewish organization organizing a teen tour for young people and for some reason not wanting non-Jews to be chaperones, or non-Jews to attend.

Either we have freedom of association, or we don't. If it isn't open to the public, it is a private organization. There is a huge difference between opening a clothing shop, accepting money and business from the public and excluding certain groups, and a private organization that controls what they want to do...even if it is a virginal dungeons and dragons group - but you want the government to be involved? Gotcha...

A Chritian's group is not "theirs" by a much larger perspective its Christ's group. And although I'm a fallen Catoleigh I do remember that Christ professed a message of "inclusion" amongst all peoples. This particular group of Christians are big fat fkg hypocrites. Hooray for the Atheists on calling their asses on it.

As far as the issue at hand, I think its hilarious that Christians preach "Only god can judge" and then judge themselves. But that's normal for any religious cult to be hypocritical and void of logic and reason.

These atheists are...they aren't people that are questioning their own beliefs, or are interested in learning more about the faiths of others. They are professional assholes. They are to atheists as to the Westboro Church (or whatever they call themselves) are to Christians. They are just trying to make trouble.

Then why did they bother to try to join a group that doesn't want them - and make a fuss about it?

It seems like most civil people would just start their own group and if they agree with the cause will do something similar - this is what normal people do.

How many analogies must I make? I'm not Catholic or Jewish and even though I agree with many of their charitable contributions I don't expect them to allow me to join in because I support their cause.

That is the high road response.

And the middle to low road response - how douchey does someone have to be to belong to a group calling themselves the upstate atheists knowing it is antagonistic? What is the gain in that? Do they have a goal, or mission statement?

They wanted to help a group of people that Christians decided they were going to help. Therefore, they are assholes.

My argument is that private organizations can do what they want and live by their rules, even if we find them odious (because many groups might find other viewpoints similarly odious). Perhaps I should move back to 1776 when we had this type of point of view. You know, American?

Quite the opposite. If the Great Commission is to, "...go and make disciples of all nations..." then those who are not Christians are the people to be sought out and shared the Gospel with.
