Well now that girls volleyball is over for some of us, its time to talk about Basketball. Who are the good teams going to be? Smithville, Triway, Orrville, Waynedale? Who will be the best in the county? Can Wooster dominate as they should because of their size? Does Northwestern have anything? Rittman has new coaching and Chippewa has their old coach back, can he make a difference? Orrville volleyball lost a ton of talent and pulled it together to make a nice run. Can they do it again in basketball with Mark Alberts leading the Riders? Where will the Dennis girl go to play?

Orrville will be pretty good but will have no chance against West Holmes in the league. Not sure Wooster can compete with West Holmes either. In the WCAL, Chippewa could end the Smithville streak. Can anyone else contend with these two? I think the Bears have some talent but will be curious to see if they can hang with the top two. May have to get to a few games?

Orrville lost a ton last year, but we lost the same ones in vball and had a decent season. We beat the trading deadline and got a guard that might help us. She won't have to sit any since she didn't play last year due to injury. It will be difficult to beat West Holmes this year, but everyone will find it hard to do that.

The girls first tournament game is against Canton Central Catholic, I believe at Orrville.

I attended the game Monday vs CCC. The JV halftime score; CCC - 16, OHS - 2

OHS came out 2nd half and turned it around...tied it at 16-16 and went on to gain the W @ CCC - 20, OHS - 30.

Varsity won also. If Trinniti Hall gets stronger and starts hitting her jumper...much potential!

Girls first game 2-19 7:00 pm at home vs CCC. If we win its the 22nd at Tuslaw. Then the 25th vs Chippewa at Wooster. Then district final vs other side of bracket. Probably Smithville.

Most likely the finals will be Chippewa and Smithville. Orrville has an outside chance. Triway has too, many injuries. Waynedale and Tuslaw have chances also. Manchester will probably win at home, but can't seem to win it all in Wayne County. Manchester split with Tuslaw and gave Wadsworth a good game. So they may be able to beat Smithville. Five or six teams which could win if playing well. Interesting that Tuslaw the 3 seed is on the 1 seed's side of the bracket.

Eating your words Old Rider? LOL I said before we went to the game, we'll never win , I don't know why I'm going. Well, Orrville handled the pressure well enough to win. Chippewa isn't as good as I thought, but is very young and will be a load next year. Sham stepped up and played big without making the mistakes that have held her back from being a great player and the X factor came into play again at tournament time. Each time I watch Trinity play, I am more and more amazed at her sheer athletic ability. I have seen no female athletic player at Orrville with her raw and untapped athletic ability. I've seen smart, athletic and skilled players. But no one with this amount of raw and undeveloped talent. If she had an outside shot and basketball handling skills she would be unstoppable. Just throw the ball up and she gets it, just lob it down the court and she gets to it. Two more years. We have the people in V ball to help her, we'll have to see if we have them in B Ball. Dennis will help. Others will have to get better for us to contend. Smithville's going to have their hands full with Manchester, but we'll see.

Is this another prime example of how playing in the OCC prepares Orrville for the tournament trail? Is it really worth jumping out still?

We see everything through the prism of football...and since not every football team makes the playoffs, we hate the OCC...but for other sports where everyone qualifies for the post-season, it benefits. We've seen it in basketball, volleyball & baseball recently.

Not all of us want out. Conference titles mean nothing to me...I want playoff football and tourney runs. This schedule makes us physically and mentally tougher team. There is no way I want to go to a small WCAL conference. I have said that from day one of all this crazy talk.

What exactly do you mean when you say 'we have the people in V ball to help her, we'll have to see if we have them in B Ball'? I'll be interested to hear your explanation. Also, why do you keep beating the Dennis drum? Have you ever seen her play? The only thing I know about her is that she wears an Orrville letter jacket that she hasn't earned.
