Wow! first he says not to hate the homo's and now his epiphany saying that
Pope Francis called ideological Christianity “an illness” that doesn’t serve Jesus Christ. Instead, it “frightens” people and pushes them away from religion.

The idea of a Pope makes me laugh. "Oh here's this man who wasn't as holy but then a bunch of his holy buddies elected him and now he's even more holy than he was before and now has opinions that are direct from god".

Seriously, organized religion is the worst thing on the planet and anyone who believes in religion is a moron. Now I'm cool with people believing whatever they want to believe, however they shouldn't be allowed to vote. I'd even be okay with religious people getting 3/5ths of a vote instead of a full vote; whatever it takes to prevent as many stupid people from voting as possible.

B) I think I agree with part B of this sentence, but I doubt that it is religion "they" believe in. At least I hope it's not religion "they" believe in.

A) I would rather have people think about their own personal beliefs and not be hoodwinked by some crap that people came up with to steal their money and hold power over them. Organized religion is terrible; its a cult that never seems to get the negative light it deserves.

Its not hard to say without question that there is no god, but I'm 100% certain that any organized religion out there has it 100% wrong and is simply preying on the poor and/or stupid. How anyone backs this and says that is a good thing is beyond me.

There is so much fail and misinformation in this thread it is staggering.

1. If he was referring to those like Westboro Baptist freaks then I agree with him, they are a "cancer".
2. If he was referring to all evangelical Christians then he is just as much a moron as the Westboro folks (ok, not as bad, that was too much).
3. Sleeper and Tiernan just prove their thought processes (maybe not their actions) are just as bad those those in the Westboro Baptist Church. They are just judging/denegrating Christians while the Westboro idiots are judging/denegrating homosexuals.

What if there were so many of them that they were certain to put their people in office and to force their extreme views on the rest of the country? Would you want the Westboro mentality determining your fate as a citizen?

Considering they don't believe in basic human rights due to who someone sleeps with in their own bedroom, nope I don't. However, if their cult grew to the point that it had a majority voting sect in the USA, I guess I'd be forced to find other places to live.

Nope, the Bible does say that homosexuality is a sin.

However, no where does it say it is any 'worse' of a sin than lying, adultery, theft, etc.

The Bible, however, specifically calls out religious folks and Christians who 'judge' others because in reality we are no better than them. We 'sin' just as well.

Not only in the book of Matthew does it state "Judge not or you will be judged" but Jesus was CONSTANTLY telling the religious leaders of the day that their judgemental ways and ceremonial hard/set in stone beliefs were wrong and they needed to change their ways.

See, my first instinct towards that is "yay, at least he doesn't think I'm an abomination/definitely going to hell". But then I give it a bit more thought and it still isn't an opinion that should be lauded. You're still equating being gay with theft, lying, adultery, etc.

Glad you do not distinguish between sins; that is one common annoyance with Christianity. But at its core, your rationale for calling WBC idiots and cancer is the exact same thing. "The Bible says this and you are doing it wrong so you suck." You and WBC do it. Now, I get that you are not being as forward or overbearing with it, but you specifically mentioned thought process vs. actions ... and the Christian thought process is always the same. It is always a matter of being less of a sinner or of knowing better what the bible says or what god wants or some other stretch that somehow makes you better. Some people go further with it, but it is all cult mentality.
