Boras is a scumbag pos. I don't care that he tries to get everything he can for his clients, the guy is a douchebag.

Says he probably would've accepted the offer.

Makes sense. His selling point he mentioned was that he's durable and reliable. Shouldn't have any problem extending that another year and hitting FA in 2015.

Yea, my fear was that he would take the 14 million this year, then shoot for a couple years at around 8 or 9 million per the next couple years, which would still get him around 30 million for the 3 year period.

@ken_Rosenthal 1h
Sources: #Reds to hire #Pirates hitting coach Jay Bell as bench coach.

Interesting. Going from hitting coach to bench coach, in the division...

Reds to sign Skip Schumacher to two-year deal. Don't really like the 2 years, but he can be a viable pinch hitter, and spot starter.

Spot-starter? On a contender? Guy has no range and zero pop.

However, it does mean that possibly Xavier Paul won't be retained, freeing up over 2M. That's all I can think of. He's a guy that could fill a 6th IF and 5th OF role.

I'm talking once every 2-3 weeks. He don't have a lot of pop, but has been an above average hitter over his career.

He's a Walt/LaRussa guy.

He might get a lot of starts at 2nd.

That's the problem. More of the same. I'm fine if he's a bench player, but if he's getting any consistent starts...trouble.

If they deal BP, which sounds likely, you need to spend to get a decent 2B. Maybe only like 30-40% of what BP makes (Infante, Young, etc...), but you can't just go completely on the cheap.

If he becomes a starter on this club, then 2014 is going to be a very, very long season.

Bench guy? Sure.

Heard this AM that BA supposedly has been contacted by 4-5 teams. Not opposed to him coming back, but not at big money or for very long, something that Boras wont allow happen. He would have BA sign with the fuckin mariners if they promised $.50 more on a contract.

This would be an awesome signing. Talk about wanting someone who can hit in the playoffs and who brings a lot of different stuff to the table.

^^^Won't happen--he'll be in pinstripes, which will entice Cano to stay there too.

We all hated on Parra early on, but he did earn his money considering what other specialists make. I'd much rather have him at under 3M than Marshall at over 7M or Broxton at 8M.

Yea, Parra earned this contract. Probably our most consistent bullpen guy the 2nd half of the season.

Just read BP isn't scheduled to appear at Redsfest. I'm guessing this means he's gone.

Interesting.
I know BP always seems like he loves those type of things. last year he was on one of those little fields in there hobnobbing with everyone.

I did see a diff side of him at a small, local stop on the reds caravan a couple of years ago. It is a stop they make locally and only for local advertisers. Went back there for a bit and he was half there mentally. Wore his shades inside even thought it was dreary, and dark in there. We were there for a bit then went and sat and ate by the doors. When he left the back area someone yelled "see you next year" (he had been there 2-3 times before) and he mumbled to his handlers next to him 'man I hope I dont have to do this next year' and they chuckled. He just happend to be walking right by. This isnt even a big pressure even where ya have thousands of people yelling 'brandon, brandon, brandon'. Very low key, quiet and such. He made a few very innapropriate comments to the female wait staff, one of which was 16, maybe 17 at the time. One of the workers mentioned she used to be a BP fan until that. OF course, we all know now about how he gets around, and hey..that is all good i guess if he takes care of all his kids he has sprinkled around the area!

Last year BP and BA took very subtle jabs at Votto for being there for a short time and bolting right away. I wonder if he is just tired of doing stuff like this, or if he has something else going on, or is being traded, requested not to be there, just finally scheduled off the event, or the riff between him and the org is still there.

Who knows.

I will say this....if he is gone the must get someone to fill in for his production. Losing Choo, AN BP without bringing in some bats will lead to a very shitty season

Just saw on Twitter that Oakland is the rumored third team in the Hanigan deal.
