I saw a stat that the Indians won half of their 92 games (46) against essentially 5 of the worst teams in baseball (Sox/Twins/Astros/Mariners/Marlins).
I think the mark of a good team is beating hte teams you are supposed to beat, but that is taking it to a new level.
I would take 92 wins right now for next season no matter how they are compiled, but it seems like to take the next step is going to require putting more into beating the better teams so that you are seasoned and ready for the bright lights of October. he Rays play a 1/3rd of their season every year against the Yanks/Sox/Orioles, and you can just see in them that they were ready and uneffected tonight.
Big stride this year for sure, but that needs to be a point of emphasis going forward.

Exactly, beating bad teams means nothing in the playoffs when every team is a winning team.IggyPride00;1511785 wrote:I saw a stat that the Indians won half of their 92 games (46) against essentially 5 of the worst teams in baseball (Sox/Twins/Astros/Mariners/Marlins).

We can start an off-season thread and talk more in depth about this.
But I really feel this year, the way they finished to get that taste, will have them ready to really do damage next season. With a couple breaks, we could overtake the Tigers for the division and avoid this BS WC game.
I have no issue with beating up bad teams, but they do have to perform much better versus the Tigers, especially since they wont destroy bad teams again. The team is ready to compete, they just have to believe it themselves.

I get what you are saying 100%, but a team like the Royals beat the good teams more than us, same with the Orioles and probably the Angels and Yankees. It didnt get them shit, cause well you gotta beat bad teams to GET to the playoffs.Glory Days;1511787 wrote:Exactly, beating bad teams means nothing in the playoffs when every team is a winning team.
Trust me, I get what youre saying. But the Tribe is a much better team than the media is painting them to be right now (they are all pointing to that record). What would they have said if Asdrubal plugs a gap in the 4th? Would that have changed our entire seasons failure versus good teams? No. It just shows how close this team actually is.

They are closer, but I think we could see some big change this off-season.No. It just shows how close this team actually is.
First and foremost is what kind of commitment are they willing to make with Ubaldo?
Is he the pitcher we saw in the first half or the 2nd, and what kind of contract do you give him long term?

we lost the Wild card game in the same way we lost all the "big games" to the Tigers, Royals etc....playing it close to the vest, waiting for the big hit that doesn't come. All of our big hitters had a chance to put us on the board and failed miserably with poor At bats....Cabrera, Swisher, Kipnis( twice) ....Bourn was particularly useless. Gomes, and oddly, Chisenhall, kept getting on base, only to be left there by guys you'd expect to put good swings on balls in the clutch.
All those base runners...and nothing to show for it.SMH.

The Orioles and Yankees (and Rays) had the tougher road. The east had 4 teams well into the top half of the league and while the central had 3....19 against each makes a difference and Toronto wasn't the White Sox by a long stretch.Laley23;1511789 wrote:I get what you are saying 100%, but a team like the Royals beat the good teams more than us, same with the Orioles and probably the Angels and Yankees. Exciting season, and who woulda' thunk it when the season began...and how appropriate is it that Druby sucked yet again in a big game (yeah, I know he wasn't alone, but he's done it the most consistently throughout the season)...roll Tribe

Was a fun and improbable season. Hopefully they can build off this and not take their usual step back next year.

yeah...the expectations will be higher, and as someone mentioned earlier, lots of off season moves to be made that will make or break the 2014 team.

agreed. Obviously, Druby and Perez will be gone. They need to resign Kasmir and Ubaldo....and find a right handed hitter with some pop.HitsRus;1511819 wrote:^^^^

I'd take another left handed bat with some pop if his name rhymed with "Cano."wes_mantooth;1511822 wrote:They need to resign Kasmir and Ubaldo....and find a right handed hitter with some pop.

Wouldn't be a bad idea but he would never come here. Kipnis could make the transition to 3rd. That's a hell of a defensive infield with lindor at shortBR1986FB;1511828 wrote:I'd take another left handed bat with some pop if his name rhymed with "Cano."![]()

A few thoughts from last night:
1) Thank you Tribe for getting me to care about September baseball games again
2) IF we're going to lose, that's the way I want it: at least giving ourselves chances. Would much rather have that than only getting 2 hits*
3) for all those 18 and under Tribe fans, THAT'S what baseball games were like in the 90s. Awesome crowd
Bummed that we lost, but damn what a ride.
*footnote: Joe Maddon is a mad genius, and his integration of statistical analysis in his managing makes him my favorite manager in baseball.

I want to see what Lindor can do next year.
I also would like them to sign a power hitting right handed Right Fielder or 1st baseman (if that is even available).
Resign Baldo and Kazmir

The crowd was sooooo good last night, the team....not so much. It was crazy though, every time a situation arised...the crowd was in to it big time. Then of course, Bourn, swish, kipnis and cabrera would shit the bed. But the crowd kept coming back...only to be disappointed again. The fans were absolutely fantastic.
Also, heard this morning that Swisher has the lowest BA in postseason history with a minimum of 150 at bats. Congrats Nick.
