It's def awesome. low to mid 70s year round. Rarely rains, best water supply in the country (Hetch Hetchy) in 20 mins or less I can be out in the redwoods with great hiking/camping, and less than 3 hours away is Tahoe. Can't beat it.

No so much the price, but the jump in price is what shocked us.

Studios here in Honolulu are 2k plus. We decided to live on base solely because of off base cost of housing and electric.

A 3br place in a decent area will be 3k+

Just another reason I'm ready to get to San Antonio. Cheaper gas, groceries, food, and housing!

2 people in a studio?! I'd be interested to see how that looks.

I'm assuming it's rather large. I was in a studio before my current setup. Around 380 sq feet....fucking terrible.

Worse than rednecks in the midwest that still use homophobic slurs? Eh, give me a hipster over a bigot.

I spent some time there last summer. Charleston is a nice place, very "up and coming." I still couldn't do it though, I can only handle the south and what goes along with in brief visits.

My daughter informed me that the company she works for has ask if she could go the LA for three months on a project they need help with additional salary increase.
Her job will be safe in Chicago after the three months, will put her up in LA (room and board) in a hotel/studio just down the street from the office in downtown LA. She will still have to pay for her apartment lease in Chicago, so when she does come back to Chicago off and on she has a place to come back to.

Sounds like a good deal … almost to good..

I forget what my sister was paying but hers was a 3BR with a bit of a yard.

Pretty standard. My company just did that with me. I spend most of the summer in Portland, Oregon. Didn't have to pay for a thing out there but still had my stuff here to take care of. All of the bills went to the company and i got per diem for food/groceries and incidentals. Expensed everything else. Actually saved money because I didn't have to pay for food, gas, etc. I did spend more time at the Indians reservations and throughbred race track than perhaps is advised but it still worked out.

The only way Alabama is tolerable is if you don't have to deal with the people there.
