Agreed, they need to take the outcome of the game out of Weeden's hands and put it into the defense's hands. Mix in a few deep passes with a consistent running game (even if it's 3 yards at a time) and play-action. I feel like we don't utilize play-action nearly enough, and with teams bringing pressure, that could take a lot of the pressure off.BR1986FB;1512601 wrote:Turner is going to have to dumb down the offense. In Weeden's good games last year, we also had a solid running game or at least we kept the opponents honest. Last night on that 70+ yard, 14 play drive where McGahee ran it in, there were 9 McGahee runs with a few passes. If they are going to be successful, with Weeden, THAT is the formula. If he has to pass it 40+ times in a game, we shouldn't expect positive results.
This team is set up like Pittsburgh & Baltimore were in Roethlisberger & Flacco's rookie seasons minus the strong running game. The defense will keep you in it. Just try to establish the run and manage the game. Weeden may not win it for them but for god sakes, don't lose it.
As for Weeden, he's got to learn to be decisive. Read and react. Not read, think, pat, and react. If he wants this to be HIS team, he's going to have to perform better, because the team looked disheartened when he entered the game. He MUST improve in order to keep the team's confidence up. THAT is on his shoulders and no one else's.
As for the line, they need to block for Weeden like they did for Hoyer. I know Hoyer gets rid of the ball much quicker, but it appeared as if they were giving less effort when Weeden entered the game. It's got to be consistent at all times. One last thought, Schwartz isn't very good. We better be looking for another tackle in the draft.
