That's a very good point. ND only signed three offensive lineman for the class of 2013 and at the moment only have two commitments for the class of 2014.

I'm not doubting that Evans and Walker can develop. I was just saying that Goodman is more likely to have an impact as a WR than he is at QB. Kumara has been a disappointment following his freshman year, it would be great if Kelly could light a fire under his ass too.

Don't know Danny, just Chris. I can't see why Wenger wouldn't come back though, what else is he going to do next year with the soc degree? Might as well take a shot and hope he can somehow play well enough to get drafted.

My thoughts exactly.

I wouldn't say Kumara has been a disappointment. Going from first to third on the depth chart will diminish production. He is the best blocker of the bunch, and he's tall. He was a very solid depth receiver throughout the season. I think in four-receiver sets you're going to see Floyd and Evans be the wide outs with their speed. With Kumara's good blocking ability and height he'll fit in nicely at slot. Goodman will successfully replace Parris. Both Kumara and Goodman will be fine possession receivers. The difficulty will be in getting Evans to be able to stretch the field like Tate could. And where the hell is Walker?! At the end of the day though I think this corp is fine, Kelly has to be liking this group of guys.

Matt James is another crucial offensive recruit. He'd contribute immediately, probably wouldn't start. I don't like starting freshmen in the trenches. I have to like Notre Dame's chances with him. He's from Cincinnati, and was down to three choices, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. I have to imagine it's another Notre Dame-Ohio State battle. The same goes with Henderson. His parents were unhappy with Urban Meyer's decision, so I scratch them. Southern Cal is too far away in my opinion, he's mentioned wanting to stay in the midwest. Ohio State has a considerable lead in my opinion; Kelly would gain a lot of points in my book if he were to snag Henderson.

Bob Diaco takes over the defense and long time OC Charley Molnar will take over the offense.

I'm not worried as much about the offense because ND has alot of weapons returning even with Clausen and Tate gone, plus Kelly is a proven commodity when it comes to offense. The defense has been terrible and Diaco will embark on a very difficult mission to get that unit up to snuff. He has Te'o to build around and a good leader in Brian Smith to get the defense headed in the right direction. Hopefully guys like Lewis-Moore, Filer, Johnson and Fleming can elevate their game next year.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame has added a quarterback and four other players after being in danger of having no scholarship quarterbacks ready to go full speed for spring practice.

Tommy Rees of Lake Forest, Ill., was one of five high school players to enroll early as spring semester classes began Tuesday. Rees likely will get plenty of work at quarterback with Dayne Crist, the only other scholarship quarterback on the roster, expected to be limited as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee sustained Oct. 31 against Washington State.

New Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has said that Crist isn't expected to be fully ready for spring practice. With Jimmy Clausen heading to the NFL a year early, Crist is expected to be the starting quarterback when the Irish open the season Sept. 4 at home against Purdue.

Kelly has said he also is considering moving receiver John Goodman, who played quarterback in high school, to quarterback.

Walk-on quarterback Nate Montana also is back. The son of former Notre Dame standout Joe Montana had transferred to Pasadena City (Calif.) College before the start of last season to get more experience.

Montana played in five games for the Lancers (5-5), completing 31-of-88 passes (35 percent) with five interceptions and two touchdowns.

The four others who enrolled early Tuesday are safety Chris Badger of Provo, Utah, cornerbacks Spencer Boyd of Cape Coral, Fla., and Lo Wood of Apopka, Fla., and receiver Tai-ler Jones from Gainesville, Ga., whose father, Andre, was a defensive end on Notre Dame's last national championship team in 1988.

They are the fifth-largest group of recruits to enroll early at Notre Dame. Other high school players who plan to play at Notre Dame next season will sign their letters of intent on national signing day, Feb. 3.

Former Kansas Offensive Coordinator Ed Warinner hired as O Line coach at ND. Ill say this was a good move. Ive known Ed since balling as kids at the YMCA.

Happy to see a former St. Marys Roughrider Mike Elston also on Kelly's staff. Mike played on two D-II State Championships for St. Marys and played on the 1997 Michigan Championship team.

I'm more concerned with Henderson than Hendrix at this point. My sister could complete passes with all day to throw--which is exactly what would happen with Sentreal Henderson at tackle. (It helps my sister was a state champion shot putter. :D)

I've known Ed since I was a little kid. We are both the same age. My mom worked in Strasburg for 30 some years and got to know the Warinner family very well. My parents had mutual friends with his parents and thus we spent alot of time water skiing and such at Tappen Lake when we were kids. I am glad he got this job and wish him luck.

He took an official visit to Florida and has an offer from them. I believe he had some doubts after Weis was fired but Kelly seems to have done a nice job of smoothing things over.
