So, what are the best new shows coming on this year?

Some new seasons kick off this week, most of them begin next week from what I've read.

I'll be watching the usuals (Modern Family, The Middle, Parenthood, Revenge, Scandal, Person of Interest, Last Man Standing...I think I'm missing a few here).

What new shows is everyone looking forward to?

I'm interested in:

The Blacklist
The new Marvel show
Michael J Fox Show
The Crazy Ones (Robin Williams)
Kids MAsterchef show

probably some others, haven't read about all of them yet...

Blacklist looks good. May be the only new show I pick up.

This has always been my go-to each Fall:

I watch The Good Wife, Criminal Minds, Modern Family, SVU, Grey's Anatomy and Scandal on a regular basis. I also watch Blue Bloods, New Girl and a couple others off and on, mostly when my friends or roommates are watching them.

I plan to try out Betrayal, Hostages, The Blacklist, Trophy Wife, Lucky 7, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the Crazy ones.

And yes, I know I watch too much TV.

The way many promising and moderately successful shows get canceled these days it's almost not worth investing your time until into the 3rd season. I know such an attitude only contributes to the problem...

Network tv needs to take a good look at why A&E, USA, HBO and a few others are getting a much higher success rate with their new shows.

The revival of the Arsenio Hall Show began last week on Fox. It's basically the black version of Jay Leno, so it sucks, but I do like Arsenio and his charasmatic personality. With that said, I will watch Conan instead.

Now that House and The Office are off the air, the only shows I watch are Sunny and Elementary. The new Michael J. Fox show looks promising, however, and I will definitely give it a look.

The Newsroom is also fantastic, as has been discussed here previously, but that's a DVD show for me sans HBO. Other than that, TV, at least to me, seems very lackluster anymore.

Ive pretty much stopped watching any Network TV shows (Modern Family might be the only one).

I stick to Cable and Premium TV for my shows.

You need to pick better shows and/or spend some money for HBO/Showtime.

TV has never been better.

I was gonna ask about modern family. I dont watch network tv shows, just pretty much cable and shows in syndication and I see that Mod Fam is now on TBS I think. Al bundy is in it so that may be cool, but is it worth a look?

I fell asleep last week with the TV on and woke up to the words "Arsenio Hall Show" and thought I either woke up in 1995 or was having a terrible dream.

Same here, the night I saw it he had snoop on and I remember when snoop was on many years ago. Then I watched and I was like WTF.....they look old and the performance sucked.

Then I realized the show was back.

I watch entirely way to much TV won't even list them all. Thankfully there is DVR and online(hulu or other places).

Pretty interested in a few new shows though Sleepy Hollow, Blacklist, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Dads, The Millers.

thavoice, Modern Family is awesome one of the funniest shows on TV.

Looking forward to The Americans and Person of Interest returning. Hard to find good dramas these days that aren't crime or legal dramas (even the two I mentioned fall in that category).

Otherwise my list of shows I look forward to is really dwindling. There are some good shows out there I've never watched or didn't get into.

Best sitcom on TV.

Disappointed that Mike and Molly will be a mid-season premier. Looking forward to Modern Family, Parks & Rec, Nashville, Chicago Fire, Last Man Standing, and Revolution. Not sure what new shows I will watch. Probably check out Brooklyn Nine-nine, and the Michael J. Fox show.

The Mentalist should be pretty damn awesome this season. Also, I refuse to watch new shows until I know for a fact they are coming on for a 2nd season. Im tired of liking a show and then it gets cancelled after season 1.

Not an It's Always Sunny, Elementary or Newsroom fan? I also forgot to mention Parks and Rec, which is IMO better than The Office (at least the Office of the last three or four years). The League and Workaholics are also good shows, but I am not a fan to the extent that I must watch each episode.

As for HBO/Showtime, I have no reason for a premium movie channel as I already own a rather extensive DVD catalog and buy new releases pretty regularly. So the only reason I would have for either service is for their television shows, and I am not particularly interested in any of them.

I watch those shows...they are cable. But, to answer, Sunny is pretty much crap at the moment. Its gone way downhill.

Newsroom is HBO, btw...

And I am pretty sure 90% of the people have HBO/Showtime for the shows, not the movies. I would make the argument that of the top 15 shows, 10+ of them are on those 2 channels.

Newsroom, Dexter, Homeland, Boardwalk, Shameless off the top of my head. Breaking Bad and Justified (for me) are the only 2 that I know for sure would be top 15 and not Premium.

Ah, yes, save for The Newsroom.

While I know many love Dexter, Homeland and Boardwalk, I'm just not really that intrigued by them. Although, as a fan of dark drama/humor, I'm often told that I should give Dexter a try. Never have (mainly due to not having Showtime), so perhaps I would like it. I'm familiar with the other shows you mention, but they are not enough for me to warrant wanting the extra channels.

As an avid fan of House M.D. (my favorite show of all-time), The Office and Arrested Development, I think I'm just a bit jaded as a result of all three no longer being on the air and thus am just not as excited about newer shows in the same way. The early part of their runs -- coupled with the early seasons of It's Always Sunny in the mid-2000s -- marked my favorite time period for television. So I think that's why I said TV is lackluster for me nowadays.

That all makes sense. And I am not trying to push shows/channels on you lol.

Just giving you my opinion on it all, and that you should give it a shot. Based on what you said about your humor, you HAVE to watch Dexter. I woulndt say it was a pioneer, but it definitely was one of the first big time shows where the protagonist was someone you wanted to win... a Psychopathic Serial Killer.

Haha. I will have to rent the first season sometime then. I've got no doubt from what I've heard about it that I would probably love it.

You'll laugh at me, but I still use video rental stores (or what is left of them). Lol. I am clearly clinging on to the old days. I'll either pick it up at Family Video or just take a chance and buy the first season on Amazon. Based on your account, and the advice of other people I know, it'd likely be a good purchase. Thanks.
