This thread is about Kiffin, not the Senator. Hope this helps.

Kiffin has rode the nepotism and false hype wave all the way so far. As far as I can remember he has never done anything to prove he's a good head coach. I called it before last season that USC was over ranked as a preseason favorite because he has never proven his coaching ability. He's just a smooth talking snake oil salesman who can dupe those in charge to hire him and recruits to go to his programs.

As far as Tressel... Yes, it was a let down the way his career ended. But he was a good coach and did great things for OSU, and I think overall he tried to do right by his players to help them grow. I wish it didn't end like it did and Tressel was honest with the investigators, but what's done is done.

No he wasn't...his offensive schemes were less complicated than most lower level HS programs. Urban Meyer has privately said that he was shocked by the lack of technical skills the O-Line had when FL was preparing for the NC game. Many players leaving OSU for the NFL during the Tressel years were totally unprepared physically and technique wise. His inability to motivate on the sidelines during big games was appalling. Oh But Wait he he he beat Michigan all the time say the Tressel faithful! Well yes he did...during a decade of the worst mis-managing of the scUM program in the past 100 years.

Like Vball said this is a Kiffin thread...but these two are indelibly linked as the biggest coaching frauds in CFB for quite some time.

O-line? That'd be Bollman.

It's hard to argue that Tressel wasn't a good coach. His record both at YSU and OSU indicate that he is a hell of a coach. Was he the best ever? No fucking way. But to say he isn't a good coach is laughable and just shows your incredible bias against him.

Who hired Bollman doofus? Who continued to stick with Bollman after his supreme incompetence was exposed year after year after painful fucking year? Who wouldn't hire a dedicated Special Teams Coach even though every other top twenty staff in America has one? and yet our KOs and KORs were some some of the worst on record. Tressel was a masterful manipulator of BS stirring in good servings of his Christian hypocrisy and many fuckers bought into it.

My God F4F...the HC runs the program period. The Buck Stops there. Using Bollman to support your argument is what is laughable.

I won't disagree that sticking with Bollman was a mistake. I wanted him gone while Tressel was still around. But one of Tressel's faults is that he is extremely loyal to those close to him. But he also had a good overall strategy that worked a lot better than a lot of other teams during the same time period. I would have loved to see Bollman fired and replaced with someone more competent. Overall though, Tressel had a lot of success that other coaches and programs wish they could attain.

He played a conservative offense, sound special teams (especially punting, kicking), and a very strong defense. He played the play not to lose style and expect the other team to make more mistakes. It worked quite well.

Tressel was a very good coach. Your blind hatred is amusing.

Parcells is right, you are what your record says you are. Like his style (or lack thereof) or hate it, JT was one of the nation's elite football coaches.

Pretty much. Appeared in three national championship games, winning one. .810 winning percentage, which is only worse than a guy who only coached them for two years and a guy currently two games through his second year. No one in school history with more bowl victories and the only guy with more conference championships (13-6 margin) is the guy who coached there roughly three times as long.

A person can hate how his tenure ended and his actions (or complete lack of them) that led to it crashing down, but the dude was wildly successful and to one to argue otherwise just shows they're an idiot who puts personal prejudice in front of anything resembling reality.

Mussolini made the trains run on time didn't he? Jeez he must have been one helluva great leader.

You all are confusing good statistical data with great leadership, i.e. "Coaching abilities". He didnt have it and in the end he was exposed. Now stfu and get back to kicking Kiffin in the balls.

We're not the people confusing anything here. I think all of us recognize the big mistake Tressel made and we wish it went differently.

But we also recognize that he was a successful head coach, as shown by his record.

You're the person confusing the two different topics with your blinding hatred.

OK Here's one for all you honor his ass forever Tresselytes...with the talent he had on those early to mid 2000 teams would they have won more / less / about the same; if

1. Bob Stoops
2. Nick Saban
3. Les Miles
4. Urban (even though that one is kinda unfair because he really wasn't the name he is now during that period)

had been the HC, knowing what you know now about how they manage their staffs, game strategies, sideline motivation & play calling, internal strife management and recruiting? Because any one of those could have been the HC at OSU if Mr. Smoke & Mirrors hadn't blinded everyone with his fucking beter than average statistics.

Once again, we're not claiming he was the best. All we are saying is he was a very good HC.

All you did was list some other great HC's (well I personally don't think that much of Stoops and Miles, but hard to argue with Miles success, Stoops on the other hand has had a trouble in BCS games even though people liked to focus on Tressel in that regard).

Nick Saban is probably the best HC currently with Urban being runner up (until he hopefully reels off a couple of National Championships with OSU).

All you're doing is saying these other very good (at the least) HC's would have won more, less or about the same as another very good head coach. That doesn't mean Tressel was bad. It just means you listed some other good coaches.

Is Eddie George not considered a great RB because Archie Griffin won two Heismans and George only won one? That's basically the gist of the argument you just made.
