According to a just released 60 Minutes / Vanity Fair Poll more Americans said they would be willing to die for their religion than for their country. While 55% were willing to die for their children, 10% would choose to go for religion and only 5% for their country.

Once again I am never surprised by the number of idiots that live in America...

I would not die for my religion since I do not have one. I would die for my country but not "my" government.

What is so bad about dying for one's religion? Also 5% willing to die for their country is pretty low

Well since religion has killed more people throughout history than cancer, I find it humorous that people are willing to voluntarily die for something that is mythical.

Don't die for yours, make the other guy die for his.

And I don't get how dying for your religion is beneficial to religion.

Also, only 55% would die for their children?

Seems high, right?

I think all of these numbers would have been considerably higher 20-25 years ago.

reps. (e/justin wont let me) Although every year less and less retards believe in the Christianity and the Bible.
Which mean eventually less will be willing to die for religion than country.

This. But since our country is so heavily government run right now, I don't know if I could say I'd die for my country. I'm not really protecting any freedoms, when the govt. tramples them constantly.

As for religion... religions praise martyrs.

Mythical in your opinion. I do not see anything wrong with people willing to stand up and die for what they believe in (protecting family, religion, country) At least they have a purpose in life.

Also, there is a difference between dying for what you believe in and killing for what you believe in.

If I am 100% convinced that I'm right, wouldn't the latter make the world a better place rather than the former?

Apparently, 45% of the respondents did not have children.

Hopefully. But I don't have children and I would have answered yes to that question. I mean, I'd die for my niece and nephew.

No, just because you believe something to be true beyond doubt, does not make it so.

It is necessary to be around people of different beliefs than you. If you are only around people that believe the same things you believe in, and there is nothing to challenge your beliefs, you will not grow as an individual.

Which makes doing either in the name of religion a questionable activity.

You guys are looking at this from your safe suburban white bread perspective...lots of Americans don't have a clue where their kids are let alone die for them. But then again that particular element of society probably ain't responding to a Vanity Fair poll either...soooo carry on.

taking it a bit off course, but I wouldn't die for my dogs. I'd probably kill for them though!
