It is nowhere near as socially dangerous as alcohol. I don't use it, but I have zero problem with people that do. As long as it's not bothering me, to each his own.
It's illegal because of the following;

1. Making it illegal doesn't violate an unalienable right to possess it or use it.

2. With that being the case, the people through the representative /legislative process can decide what is and is not illegal based on the the type of society we want and are seeking to be.

3. Once it was made illegal takes a significant mass of the population to force representation to change the law.

Although we are closer today that even a year ago to being the case, we simply aren't there yet

Good point. Even I have standards, strange as it may be for others to hear me say that.

LOL @ the pharmacist calling himself a doctor, unless this is some kind of joke that I'm unaware of. A PharmD is no PhD, or J.D., or any kind of doctorate that is actually research intensive. It's essentially just a graduate degree. Maybe if it was research intensive, you would have done actual research on marijuana and wouldn't be so ignorant on the topic.

Peace from GFY, "Doctor".

My question is if MJ is such a wonderful plant, why can't they synthesize what has the medical benefits? I don't mean to question the benefits, I'm just wondering why we aren't seeing derivative drugs.

If there's something in that plant that is really good for health/medical, something created in the lab with 10x the potency would be even better. I would think as far as pharma goes this is a slam dunk = high probability of success and low search cost.

What a poor tactic of trying to discredit what I said.

I'm not sure how much MJ medical patients go thru. But in MA, 10oz = 60 day supply so let's just call it 1/8 day. So your pill that has "no money in that" could time release over 24 hours, sell for $50/pill and STILL be cheaper than medical marijuana.

So I don't agree with you at all. Besides the convenience and upped potency, there is plenty of profit opportunity while still undercutting weed. And that's not even considering additional subsidies from medical insurance.

There are a few close ones. But there isn't a lot of science showing what chemicals in marijuana do specifically. A lot of what marijuana does is mask the symptoms and it doesn't treat them.

That's what painkillers do.

My suspicion is the actual people who need and benefit from medical marijuana - the people who might prefer the convenience and higher potency of a pill - is just not a very big market. In that scenario CC is correct that there is no money in it.

There would be huge money in for the pharmacies. the problem is that weed that is a 10th of the price probably would give more of the desired high.

I wish I could find the NY Times article I read a while back. Off the top of my head, it showed that about 75% of all patients suffering from pain were female. However, about 75% or so medical marijuana patients suffering from pain are males. and it basically goes on to show how people are abusing medical marijuana.
