Kiffin is a good offensive mind, just a poor leader. Some men just aren't meant to be in charge

Or maybe he hired someone who is widely considered to be a brilliant offensive mind and a terrible CEO of a program.

Serious question, other than their shitty running shows (imo) what is your beef with Nike?

Nike's hands were all over Univ. of Oregon dropping their wrestling program to start with...I haven't purchased a Nike product in a while but that said I'll admit I have things that were bought for me.

I know nothing about nikes involvement in that. Any details?

I still put most of the blame on the school.

I believe some duties were shared with Sark

More intriguing is how USC had 3 #1 recruiting classes with him as recruiting coord.

He also had a team filled with pro-talent that he was hired into.

He hasn't done anything since then (9 years ago)

I think the problem he is going to run into is that players won't respect him. (see USC)

Saban runs a pretty tight ship at Bama. Unlike some of the other coaches in the SEC (and around the country). Every place is going to have it's malcontents, but regardless, any trouble they do have seems to be kept in-house and guys tend to really be under wraps. It's kind of like Duke with Coach K

And it will be interesting to see how Kiffin responds to being told what to do and how to do it, all the time.

Yep, most of the kids he'll be recruiting or coaching don't remember how good an OC he was, though his impact was debatable.

They remember his amazing flame out in Oakland, including the overhead projector Al Davis trotted out, bailing on Tennessee after one season, and then following his tank at USC.

No it doesn't. If that were the case, Saban would have the same staff he did when he started. He'd never have to fire anyone. SMH

Or he just wanted a change. I doubt Bamas former OC will have a tough time finding a job.

I mean, c'mon. A staff is going to always be looking for a better and higher paying job. We'll never know the truth about most coaching staff moves unless something comes out in the media, but there isn't a coach who goes more than 2 years without a staff change of some sort.

Lets put it this way with Kiffin. He very well might not work. However, he's not going to tear down the program. I'd guess if it's not a fit, he'll be gone in 1-2 years.

I said fire, not leave for a different job. The point is, I hate hearing that because Saban hired them, then they have to be good. Hogwash. He his human like the rest of us.

Kiffin could end up being the greatest OC Alabama has ever had. I just think he has done very little to earn NFL and major college coaching jobs. Then after choking those away, he becomes OC at arguably the best CFB program right now.

My guess is, he'll have 2 or 3 good seasons as OC at Alabama (and again, because Alabama, not because Kiffin), then move on to another HC job where he'll fail again. Then he'll get some other high profile gig because who knows why.

Yes it does, and I think Saban's record over the last decade allows me to say this. If he showed Nussmeier the door, it's because his system wasn't a fit for what Saban wanted, not because he was a bad coordinator. Shake your head all you want, but yes, Saban does not hire bad coordinators. That being said, good luck the next couple of years, 'cause it's anybody's guess how DN will work out at ttun.

Okay, well lets look at it a bit differently here.

1. Kiffin has clearly failed at the head coaching jobs he did get.
2. He's at a place now where everything is in place to succeed.

Now, it may play out like you said, or how I think. I tend to think that Lane was in over his head with the Raiders, and Tennessee, and USC. I mean, he was a head coach at age what, 30? He's 38 years old. He got some opportunities, presumably because of his father's reputation.

I think he will stay at Bama for a while and then get another shot like you said. However, it's way too early to write him off as a failure as a HC because of how young he is. Working under Saban, with the way that program is run, could allow Kiffin to emerge as a new coach who is ready for another shot as the head honcho.
