Have we seen this before?

5 left on after 2. Our starter is unscathed, but on pace to hit 100 pitches after 6...

And Jeff Shelton says Hanigan is not close to coming back. He is very frustrated that he still has pain in his hand when he huts pressusre on it and has had to put the bat down again for a while. No more of a hindering injury to a hitter than a hand or wrist injury! And that was what was concerning me with Mesoraco on one of those fouls was he was working his hand after he got hit and the ball bounced way back to Leake.

Leake almost had that 3-2 liner by Cabrera, but the natural self preservation reaction of alligator arms kept him from flagging it down.

Ok, Leake got the first out this time with Evereth not getting to 2B. Watch out now for the steal attempt.

I'm loving watching Mike Leake navigating this line-up to avoid giving up runs in tough situations. It is fun, but he's using up a lot of pitches. For instance, when Alonso was up in the first inning, there was a runner in scoring position and Leake walked him rather than give him a pitch to hit. Then when he came up the next time there was a runner on first, and he allowed him a hit, but not an RBI.

I wouldn't really call it mastery. Leake has thrown a ton of meatballs since the All-Star break. He's having a great season, no doubt, but his last 3 starts you're seeing why he can't be counted on in the playoffs.

Lol you've been saying that all season.

He's 10-4 w/ a 2.65 ERA

Its definitely not mastery, but smart navigation when he doesn't have his best command.

The contact play works today, as compared to not working yesterday, and Yonder makes the wrong play and doesn't get an out.

Put him head to head against Wainwright or Kershaw in a single game format. Who is your money on? Would you give the Reds even a 33% chance w/Leake?

That's my point. He's a 4th starter, at-best.

Oh okay so we're comparing him to the NL's best? LOL come the fuck on, buike. Latos is going up against Kershaw and Wainwright. Leake is definitely a 3rd starter in the playoffs, though. And I'd have a lot of confidence in him this year.

By the way..his last 3 starts were 3 W, for Leake. They weren't great starts, but it's not like he got ripped.

Latos
Bailey
Cueto

Lets not even talk about the playoff rotation because all it's going to do is piss me the fuck off, knowing Dusty is going to royally blow it.

If Cueto is healthy, Arroyo and Leake should not be in the playoff rotation unless there is an emergency. Unfortunately, the Reds will find a way to have BOTH in the rotation, and Dusty will probably end up throwing one of them in the play-in game citing "well, it was his turn." Of course, you can project this stuff weeks in advance to set it up how you want, but that would require some out-of-the-box thinking.

Trade the house for Cliff Lee...please.

What is Meso doing jumping out there and pulling that ball for an easy out to SS to end the inning. He could hammer that ball to RF with it as far up off the ground as it was!

Homer Bailey?!

Mike Leake is 10-4, with a sub-3 ERA, Buike. Do you not comprehend that? He's a LOCK for the 3rd starter, at worst.

How about that! A quick, accurate throw by Meso to get Leake out of the potential "soup" again.

Leake:
Hits/9 - 8.63
WHIP - 1.19
BAA - .255
K:BB Ratio - 2.6:1

Bailey:
Hits/9 - 8.34
WHIP - 1.16
BAA - .247
K:BB Ratio - 4.31:1

Numbers don't lie. Bailey, overall, has been better than Leake. Leake's vastly overachieving this year and I'm not sure any Reds fan can disagree with me. His ERA, is simply a statistical anomaly right now.

I agree with Azubuike on the need for power pitchers in the play-offs. The tendency for the hitters in these more important games seems to me to be that they get smarter, going oppo etc, not taking so many wild swings which is to the detriment of finesse pitchers, and they get more tentative which makes them not able to catch up as well to power pitchers rather than finesse pitchers.

Leake "gets it"....take Leake and Homer and trade their stuff

The goal of pitching is to minimize runs....not minimize walks or runners reaching 2nd. Leake gives this team the chance to win every game. Homer has ridiculous stuff.....but I don't trust him like you don't trust Leake. You see Leake hitting 90 mph and know some numbers aren't great and I see Bailey and don't trust his head. Hell he can't even pitch to Mesoraco.

But you should have zero fear because Dusty, like you trusts Leake the least of our 5 starters.
