Wow, Jim Day reporting Jason Grilli left the game abruptly with a right forearm injury after throwing a pitch...

Honestly, I fucking hate Grilli. Typical Pittsburgh sewer rat.

Probably the only player on the Pirates I hate though.

If that final play, the double caught ball by Robinson above the CF wall, would have been the final out in a 4-3 game the Reds led, but the Giants had bases loaded and 2 out, would it have been video reviewable to see if it hit the top of the wall before the 2nd catch, which if it did would have turned a win into a loss?

Grilli actually seems like a really good dude.
As Grilli departed from New York City following the All-Star Game -- the first for the 36-year-old former journeyman -- he picked up a copy of his cover from the airport. He wasn't in possession of it for long, however, as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette tells us:
On his flight back from the All-Star Game, the Pirates closer found someone who might appreciate his copy of the magazine even more. Grilli signed the magazine and gave it to a young child that was sitting near his family.
The boy was born with a hole in his heart and was scheduled to receive a lung transplant soon.
"Why not give it to that kid?" Grilli said. "First person to give it to, right? Just trying to make his day."
Well done, Mr. Grilli.

Wasn't even close to hitting the wall.

I know. But I know because of the replay. When I saw it live, I thought it might have. It didn't make a difference in the outcome of this game, but if it would have, would the rules allow the umps to review it and hopefully get it right?

Read where the locker room in Pitts was very quiet after the game and they were thinking the worst. I don't care for Grilli but I don't want to see anyone get hurt and he has been rock solid stud for them. That bullpen is gonna wear down anyway, losing him would really hurt

BTW, gotta like tomorrow's pitching match-ups. Cincinnati native Surkamp vs Reynolds (who should thrive in a big park) and Cingrani vs Zito.
It's Cingrani vs. Surkamp, and Reynolds vs. Zito.

Can they keep Soto active for both games by doing it this way? Or do they have to send Soto down before the 2nd game to keep Cingrani on the roster?

Odds the Reds don't score 8 in the next 3 combined? Steadily mounting...
8 total in the next 3 games would be a miracle. I'm guessing 5 max.

Lol he signed a magazine and gave it to a sick kid. I am pretty sure Hitler would have done that, too.

From all the stories I've heard...Homer Bailey never would have done that.

Pretty sure Soto has to go to make room for Reynolds, as Cingrani has to be the 26th man to circumvent the 10 day waiting period after being sent down.

You don't think there are a lot of pro athletes that wouldn't have done that, or probably even taken the time to talk to the kid? By all accounts, Grilli seems like a good guy. You can also read the story about how well he has treated the people that helped him back from a bad injury to where he is now.

I don't know if we found an answer to that 10 day rule. I know you can retro it for a guy who goes onto the DL. Someone, az maybe, thought ya could do it for moving a guy down as well to when he last played. I am not sure and searched a little bit for the answer but didn't find anything. You almost would think that Reynolds would be the exception if you can retro a guy ya send down.

I am not so sure that Grille getting hurt will doom the Pirates. They have a ton of talent in that BP. It is possible that the set up guy may get the case of the goo when he gets into that closing role. What will hurt them more is the lack of IP from their starters. As others said, that will tax the BP too much and eventually be their downfall.

Cingrani doesn't have to stay down 10 days if he is called up as the 26th guy, and whomever is sent down after the double-header doesn't have to stay down 10 days.
