Coldwater is hosting this year's ACME state championship. ACME was started in the 60's in west central ohio and has grown to include around 150-180 teams from Toledo to the north, Vandalia (and at times Lebanon) to the south, Bellefontaine to the east and the state line to the west. Pretty much is your school team playing in the summer. June is usually the regular season, and then the sectionals, districts and then state. Each step is double elimination, and there is no small or big school divisions. The state is an 8 team double elimination tournament and this is the bracket: http://www.acmebaseballcongress.org/2013acmestate.pdf Looks likey are not updated yet but to summarize: Lima Shawnee and Defiance are in the winners bracket finals. Coldwater, Crestview, Anthony Wayne and Bellefontaine are in the losers brackets. Vandalia Butler and Ottawa Glandorf were two and barbeque this weekend. ACME, like most leagues, is watered down from what it used to be, but it is still a very effective way for your kids to play. With legion (who also is taking a hit), travel teams and everything else going on you see a watering down of every league. http://acmebaseballcongress.org/ is the site to learn more about ACME, and if your school is close to the areas I don't see a reason why they wouldn't accept you. It isn't very expensive. I belive it is a total of $50 per team to be in the league0. For your home games you pay for your own umpires and balls of course, an dcome tournament time you play for 1 umpire per game. You can host a sectional, district or state and actually end up making money. Some teams have their rec/town pay for it, some get dontations, etc. Some bash the league, but you really do get out of it what you put into it. You can play as little as 12 games or as many as you want (with the OHSAA stipulation of only 2 games per day of course). Some teams get in a lot of games, schedule tough teams and they traditionally are the ones that do well. You can play games against any league you want. I know we have played Indiana teams, legion teams and some others from the Cleveland area that were not associate with ACME. Summer really is a time where a kid can improve a TON. The weather is conducive to getting in a lot of games, a lot of practices and a ton of reps. Some players opt to play in travel ball, and that is fine, as that gives other kids valuable experience as well.
