If you believe the facts in the article, the woman was raped then jailed for sex outside of marriage, giving a false statement and consumption of alcohol.

Towards the end of the article it lists a few other recent incidents where a woman reports a rape and is subsequently jailed for charges such as those listed above.

If I were a woman, I'd never go to the Middle East for a civilian job (military is another matter as that's what they sign up for).

Jesus. That's crazy. Girl i'm talking to worked in Dubai for 2 years and said it was pretty normal there. Guess she was sheltered. She's a Jew too. Go figure.

I read a pretty interesting article on Dubai a while ago. Something about the city going bankrupt and dying and some weird employment laws they have there. I wish I could find it. Kind of a shame since the city is so beautiful.

As cool as it looks, I have no desire to ever go to Dubai or any other Middle Eastern city. Call me...well whatever you want to call me, but I love it here in 'Merica and I don't have any desire to visit most other countries.

There is some pretty messed up shit when it comes to this. There are Honor Killings in muslim countries that it is OK to kill a woman/sister if she brings shame to the family like sex before marriage, drinking, getting raped, being a lezbo, etc. This shit does happen and it is pretty messed up.

Yeah, for the most part (ie: a few resort towns), if I'd like to visit another country, it's probably in Europe. Mainly because I have a friend who's spent time there (and is in Belgium this summer) and has loved it.

But to do that, I'd either have to have a lot of money dropped on me to do it right...or make major cuts to my alcohol-related get-togethers and such. And I don't see that happening, so 'Murrca it is!

Different strokes for sure. There are still amazing parts of 'murica that I want to visit.

I've done a little of overseas traveling and would love to do more. Top 2 on my most wanted to visit places are Crater Lake (USofA) and Croatia.

I would travel outside the US (already have). But as Heretic said, it would most likely be to Europe, and I would want to have the resources to do it right.
